Description: ABOUT THE ROLE The QC Technician Level II performs advanced quality control tests on aggregate materials, both in the laboratory and field, following CDOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards. This role ensures compliance with project and regulatory requirements, supports troubleshooting, conducts data analysis, and assists in implementing quality initiatives and best practices. WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH Conduct ongoing laboratory and field sampling and testing of aggregates to ensure compliance with state, project, and customer specifications Perform advanced aggregate tests, including: Sieve analysis, specific gravity and absorption, sand equivalent, Los Angeles abrasion, Flat and elongated particles, Clay lumps and friable particles, Soundness and Fractured faces Document and report test results accurately; maintain test databases and provide summaries or analyses as needed Assist with the development, administration, and documentation of material control plans and quality control procedures. Calibrate, maintain, and repair laboratory and field testing equipment; document calibration activities. Support troubleshooting and technical material performance for all plants in the geographic area; provide guidance to internal and external customers. Recommend and assist with plant changes to ensure product conformance and consistency. Work independently and as part of a team, often with minimal supervision (20-30% of the time). Assist sales, superintendents, and managers as required. Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Education: High School Diploma or GED required, Associates Required Work Experience: 1-3 years experience Travel Requirements: Ability to travel to work sites (40%) Additional Requirements: Current or ability to obtain ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level II certification (Level I required as prerequisite) and relevant CDOT certifications. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs over uneven ground for a distance of 300 feet. Availability and willingness to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project and plant locations as needed. Proficient in maintaining accurate records and preparing detailed technical reports. MSHA certification or ability to obtain within 6 months (company-provided training). Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment & PPE, including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests. Experience with CDOT or other state/federal transportation projects. Effective November 2023 WAQTC certification for soils and embankment testing is a plus.
