MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship on Metabolomics, Lipidomics and Fluxomics to Study Cancer Metabolism
Job Location
verona, Italy
Job Description
Organisation / Company: Università degli Studi di Verona Department: Department of Biotechnology Is the Hosting related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure? No Professor Daniela Cecconi invites post-docs with strong expertise in metabolomics and LC-MS data analysis to present expressions of interest in applying jointly with University of Verona, Department of Biotechnology for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF) on Metabolomics, Lipidomics and Fluxomics to Study Cancer Metabolism . The project will focus on developing and applying untargeted metabolomic and lipidomic strategies to comprehensively analyze the metabolism of pancreatic cancer cells. Specifically, it aims to characterize metabolic fluxes and metabolic/lipidomic deregulation following treatment with novel mitochondria-targeting molecules designed to modulate cancer metabolism and exert potential antitumor effects. The main aim and task of the position is to establish and, when yet unavailable, develop analytical methods (LC-MS/MS based) and apply them on the already available samples. In particular, the postdoc will be responsible for setting up untargeted metabolic and lipidomic analyses, as well as fine-tuning fluxomics through 13C metabolic labeling, using an Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid mass spectrometer coupled to a nanoUHPLC, and Compound Discoverer software for data analysis. Profile We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate who can work independently and in a structured way, with a background in analytical chemistry and the following essential experience and skills: Ability to conduct untargeted metabolomics and fluxomics experiments, focusing on identifying and quantifying a wide range of metabolites in complex biological samples (preferably with nanoUHPLC-Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid MS). Hands-on experience in metabolite identification and annotation using Compound Discoverer software, as well as proficiency with metabolite databases and data mining tools for the identification of unknown compounds. Application of data deconvolution strategies to identify metabolites across different sample matrices. Experience in handling large, multidimensional datasets and conducting statistical analysis (multivariate statistical methods for untargeted metabolomics). Additionally, the candidate should have experience in, or be familiar with, integrating multiple types of omics data (which will be an advantage), as well as writing scientific papers, communications, and technical reports. The post-doc fellowship will take place at the Proteomics Laboratory, Department of Biotechnology, University of Verona (Italy) and will involve the use of instruments available at the University's Platform Center and accessible to the research group. HOSTING RESEARCH GROUP/SUPERVISOR We are looking for excellent postdoctoral researcher applicants for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship to be presented with the Department of Biotechnology at the University of Verona (Italy) as Host Institution. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be supervised by Professor Daniela Cecconi , Associate Professor in Analytical Chemistry of University of Verona (Italy). She is the Director of the proteomics research group at the Dept. of Biotechnology. Currently, the research group consists of a tenure-track researcher in Analytical Chemistry, a PhD student in Biotechnology, as well as internship students from the Master's Degree Program in Molecular and Medical Biotechnologies. Her research activities fall within the field of analytical chemistry and focus on the development and application of techniques and methodologies for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of proteins/peptides and, to a lesser extent, metabolites, in biological samples. Her research topics include characterization of the molecular mechanisms of action of new antitumor agents, as well as development of analytical methodologies for proteomics/metabolomics. She authored or co-authored more than 105 peer-reviewed international journal papers. She is an Associate Editor for “Journal of Integrated OMICS – a Methodological Journal”, as well as member of the Editorial Board for “Journal of Proteomics” (Elsevier) and “Scientific Reports” (Nature Portfolio). Selected candidates will be offered both academic and administrative support from the Centre / Department and the University of Verona Grant Office with regards to the proposal preparation. ELIGIBILITY Candidates must be eligible according to the criteria established by the 2025 MSCA Postdoctoral fellowship call: To have a PhD at the call deadline (September 10, 2025) To have up to 8 years research experience after PhD To be citizens of an EU State or of an Associated Country or long-term resident in Europe (only for Global Fellowship) Not to have resided or carried their main activity in Italy for more than 12 in the 36 months before call deadline (September 10, 2025) – for European Fellowship Not to have resided or carried their main activity in the country of the Host Institution in the third country for more than 12 in the 36 months before call deadline (September 10, 2025) – for a Global Fellowship. Besides, candidates should be fluent in English, should have excellent teamwork attitude, organizational skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment. A short CV including personal data (name, date of birth), present position, technical skills, soft skills. One reference letter should be sent by a referee at the same address. J-18808-Ljbffr
