BESS Operations Director

About the Role Take charge of delivering utility-scale BESS projects from concept through commissioning. As EPC Project Director , you will lead the end-to-end execution of complex renewable energy infrastructure, ensuring operational excellence, safety, and performance across engineering, procurement, and construction phases. Key Responsibilities Lead full-cycle EPC delivery for large-scale BESS projects across multiple sites. Oversee engineering, procurement, construction, HSE, quality, and commissioning activities. Collaborate with development, finance, and commercial teams during project planning and bidding. Ensure all project execution complies with regulatory, contractual, and technical standards. Manage project budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation plans. Drive process improvements, track KPIs, and implement lessons learned. Act as senior interface with clients, OEMs, subcontractors, and key stakeholders. Build and manage high-performance delivery teams across concurrent projects. Report on project performance and strategy to senior leadership. Stay updated on emerging BESS tech and renewable energy innovations. Requirements Proven experience leading EPC delivery of utility-scale renewable projects (BESS, Solar PV, etc.). Strong understanding of EPC contracts (FIDIC, NEC) and energy infrastructure standards. Deep technical knowledge of energy storage, grid interconnection, and electrical engineering. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Commercial acumen and contract management experience. Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or a related field. Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe. Desirable : Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent. PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification. Experience with DNOs/TSOs and regulated utility environments.
