Help improve the job skills of people in custody, giving them employment opportunities on their return to the community. Secure, ongoing job with fortnightly pay, earning $76,817 – $93,275 per year plus super. Western Plains is a new state-of-the-art, maximum-security correctional facility in the Barwon South West region. The staff here are dedicated to helping people in our care build the skills and self-confidence needed to make positive contributions to the community. What you will do As a barber, you will provide haircuts to people in our care while training and mentoring in barbering skills for future employment. You will help the people in our care develop the technical abilities and customer service skills they can use when they return to the community. You will: Cut and style hair for the people in our care while maintaining safety protocols and following facility guidelines. Train and mentor the people in our care in barbering techniques, helping them build professional skills and confidence. Maintain a clean, organised workspace that meets all health and safety regulations. Work with our education providers to deliver training programs and create instructional materials. Manage appointments effectively while creating a respectful and positive atmosphere. What you will need You will be a qualified and experienced professional barber with experience in training, mentoring or teaching. You also have: Strong communication skills – an ability to explain complex ideas clearly. A team-focused mindset – you can work well with others, ensuring everyone feels heard. A drive for improvement – you look for better ways to do things, embracing new ideas and technologies, and help others adapt to change. Strong problem-solving skills – you manage resources wisely and build strong relationships to get the best results.
