Power BI Developer

We are seeking an experienced Power BI Architect with 15 years of hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing Power BI solutions. The ideal candidate will possess expert-level skills in advanced data modeling, row-level security (RLS), and DAX performance optimization. The role will require someone with a proven track record in leveraging Medalion Architecture, Shared Semantic Models, and ETL optimization to significantly improve the performance, scalability, and maintainability of Power BI solutions. This is a freelance, c position that offers remote work flexibility, with a requirement for expertise in designing enterprise-level Power BI architectures. The position is open to candidates across India, excluding Hyderabad & Andhra Pradesh, with payment based on an hourly rate. Key Responsibilities : - Designing and Implementing Complex Data Models : Lead the design of robust and scalable Power BI data models, applying best practices for both structured and unstructured data to deliver high-performance and flexible models. - Row-Level Security (RLS) : I mplement advanced RLS techniques that ensure data access is controlled based on user roles, ensuring both security and efficiency in report filtering. - Shared Semantic Model Design : Develop Shared Semantic Models that act as a central source of truth across multiple reports, ensuring consistency and reusability of datasets across the organization. DAX Optimization & Performance Tuning : - Writing Optimized DAX Measures : Create complex DAX formulas and optimized measures that balance performance with the need for detailed, accurate insights. Ensure DAX measures are written efficiently to minimize the computational burden and avoid performance bottlenecks, especially with large datasets. - Performance Monitoring : Use tools like DAX Studio and Power BI Performance Analyzer to monitor and improve the performance of Power BI reports, focusing on reducing load times, memory consumption, and query complexity. - Performance Optimization Strategies : Develop strategies to optimize the overall performance of Power BI reports by streamlining DAX expressions, improving query execution plans, and reducing resource consumption. ETL Optimization & Data Integration : - ETL Optimization : Utilize tools like Power Query, Azure Data Factory, and SQL to optimize the ETL pipeline, ensuring that data is transformed and pre-filtered before reaching Power BI. This process ensures that only relevant data is loaded, minimizing data transfer times and improving report performance. - Pre-Filtering Data : Ensure that data is processed in a way that removes unnecessary data and filters only relevant information before it enters the Power BI environment, enhancing overall efficiency. Architectural Design & Strategy : - Power BI Architecture Design : Lead the architectural design of Power BI solutions with a focus on scalability, performance, and maintainability. Build highly efficient, flexible, and reusable models that can handle complex reporting requirements. - Medalion Architecture Expertise : Implement Medalion Architecture in Power BI models to enable the efficient organization and management of data across multiple layers, balancing compute power and storage effectively. - Compute Layers and DWH Layers : Collaborate on building or optimizing compute layers and Data Warehouse (DWH) layers to enhance the performance of Power BI reports and dashboards. Ensure that Power BI's querying mechanism aligns with data warehousing best practices. Monitoring and Reporting Tools : - Usage of Analyzer Tools : Leverage DAX Studio, Performance Analyzer, and other performance monitoring tools to track report execution times, memory usage, and overall system capacity. - Reporting Performance Improvements : Continuously identify slow-performing reports, analyze query execution, and optimize data structures and relationships to improve report load times and interactivity. Client Consultation and Customization : - Client Interaction : Work closely with business stakeholders and clients to understand their reporting and analytics needs. Customize Power BI solutions to meet those specific requirements while ensuring performance and scalability. - Collaboration with Development Teams : Work collaboratively with data engineers, BI developers, and other stakeholders to integrate Power BI solutions into broader organizational ecosystems Documentation & Best Practices : - Documentation of Power BI Solutions : Ensure that all Power BI architecture, models, and processes are documented thoroughly. This documentation will help ensure consistency and reproducibility across future BI projects and for other team members. - Training & Knowledge Sharing : Provide training and guidance to other team members on Power BI best practices, data modeling strategies, and DAX optimization techniques. Key Skills & Qualifications : Technical Skills : - Power BI Development : Deep expertise in Power BI, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, Power BI Report Server, and Power BI Embedded. - DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) : Advanced knowledge of DAX for building complex calculated columns, measures, and tables while ensuring performance is optimized. - Data Modeling : Expertise in data modeling best practices, including Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, and other data modeling methodologies used in BI solutions. - Row-Level Security (RLS) : Advanced understanding of RLS implementation and techniques, especially when dealing with large datasets and ensuring scalability in production environments. - Power Query (M Language) : Proficiency in Power Query to clean, transform, and pre-load data before it reaches Power BI reports. - ETL Tools : Experience with tools like Azure Data Factory, SQL Server, and other ETL frameworks. - Performance Tuning : Skilled in using DAX Studio, SQL Profiler, and Power BI Performance Analyzer to optimize performance, troubleshoot issues, and improve query speed. - Data Warehouse (DWH) Design : Experience with DWH architecture and integration with Power BI, especially in optimizing the use of Medalion Experience : - 15 Years of Experience in developing, designing, and optimizing Power BI solutions. - Proven Track Record of optimizing Power BI reports and semantic models to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Strong ability to interact with business stakeholders, understand requirements, and translate them into highly efficient BI solutions. - Extensive experience in freelance or contract-based roles, particularly in remote work environments.
