Data Platform Engineer (Senior/Staff)

We’re seeking a Data Platform Engineer to join a fast-growing, YC-backed startup. If you have a strong technical background, expertise in backend systems, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges, this is an exceptional opportunity. The Role: As a Data Platform Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing and implementing scalable backend systems and optimizing data workflows to handle high-throughput data processing. You’ll collaborate with a talented team to tackle complex infrastructure challenges and contribute to shaping the company’s technical direction. Location: This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, requiring 4 days onsite and 1 remote day per week. Responsibilities: • Architect and build the core platform to ensure scalability and reliability. • Collaborate with founders to define and execute the technical vision. • Scale the engineering team and processes as the company grows. • Lead the development of a high-performance tech stack, including TypeScript, Node.js/Java, AWS, Iceberg, Spark, Flink, and Kafka. Qualifications: • Strong experience with Spark, Flink, Kafka, and lakehouse architectures • Experience with TypeScript, Node.js/Java, and AWS. • Proven track record in building scalable platforms. • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and deliver impactful results.
