VAT Manager Miejsce pracy: Wrocław Your responsibilities Overseeing VAT processes and ensuring compliance across EMEA SSC and local accounting teams Establishing and communicating VAT procedures, driving collaboration with dedicated VAT GL experts Maintaining and developing SAP VAT code logic while managing Avalara software across EU affiliates Reviewing changes in VAT law and assessing their impact on business operations Providing clear guidance on VAT issues and influencing management decisions Leading efforts to enhance VAT processes within logistics, commercial, and procurement teams Driving VAT audits (including refunds) for the region, ensuring compliance and mitigating risks Supporting specific projects impacting regional tax groups, such as M&A and business restructuring Ensuring compliance with company policies and maintaining ethical conduct Overseeing VAT responsibilities across the region, collaborating with SSC and local controllers while staying hands-on Our requirements Bachelor's degree in Tax, Accounting or Law, Master degree is preferred 8 years of experience in European VAT in multinational company and/or public accounting firm Interest and, preferably, experience working with both domestic and international operations Fundamental understanding of EU VAT law and its variety of local country implementation Experience with Avalara, SAP is a plus Ability to research and apply VAT tax laws to specific fact patterns taking into account the EU Directive as well as local implementation variations Highly efficient, organized, reliable, and resourceful professional with ability to understand and continuously improve complex processes Must be able to effectively work cross-functionally and cooperatively, particularly with other members of the Gates Tax team, the EMEA shared service center team and the local EMEA finance organization Ability to lead VAT tax audits with tax administrations defending Gates' interests and positions in a cooperative but technically correct way, and effectively manage outside consultants to maximize their value Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. The EMEA VAT Manager will report to the EMEA Tax Director. The EMEA VAT Manager will be responsible for coordinating all VAT matters for our EMEA affiliates and will serve as the key leader, contact and VAT trainer for the shared service center (SSC), which will prepare the VAT returns and intrastat filings, and local controllers. In this respect Gates is contemplating to shift from the current set-up whereby the main responsible GL colleague per entity takes on the VAT responsibilities to hiring 2 dedicated GL VAT colleagues focusing 100% on VAT that would report with a dotted line to the VAT manager but still be fully connected to the SSC accounting team. The EMEA VAT Manager will also be a key partner for other stakeholders (e.g., commercial, procurement, planning) responsible for correctly structuring transaction flows aligned with business needs and coordinating with IT to keep our systems (SAP Finance, BPCS) aligned with applicable VAT requirements. This will include establishing and maintaining a structured SAP tax code logic including the integration of our external VAT engine just selected as Gates will go-live with full SAP as of August 2025 versus just using SAP Fico fed by a legacy ERP system and the continued use of the Avalara reporting tool for VAT/Intrastat and local VAT SAF-T reporting. Interaction with the logistics and finance function will also be required to implement a robust proof of transportation process or VAT optimization processes. Finally, the EMEA VAT Manager will also be involved in projects impacting our VAT flows. The candidate must be able to conduct VAT tax research using the available research tools (primarily IBFD), and to champion continuous process improvements or adapting to constant changes balancing compliance needs with the business need for agility. The candidate must possess the capability to communicate effectively across all countries in the EMEA region, have excellent project management skills, and an aptitude to solve tax issues in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
