Role This role is an exciting opportunity to work on Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) the first east coast HVDC link, a £2.5bn construction project. The Senior Site Supervisor is a key role within the Scottish Power Transmission HVDC Business, focussing on the delivery of large-scale projects in the UK. Belonging to the HVDC team and reporting to the Convertors Project Manager, the role of Senior Site Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the site-based construction activities carried out by the PC across the project are efficiently managed in accordance with company policies and procedures. Overseeing/monitoring the works are complying with company and business specialist technical standards and technical acceptance criteria, ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied. To act as subject matter expert across one or more of the following disciplines: Earthworks, civil construction, Substations, Cabling and or Tunnelling. What you'll be doing Ensure that the Principal Contractor (PC) is pro-active in discharging their duties under the CDM regulations, not least in managing all safety aspects of the construction-based activities. Review and comment on the deliverability of the PC Site Delivery Programmes and proactively monitor all activities, promptly advising the Project Manager of any risks, opportunities or delays to programme which could impact the overall completion date or costs at completion. Be Subject Matter expert with industry construction standards especially with regards to one or more of the following; Earthworks, civil construction, Substations, Cabling and or Tunnelling. Ensure the facilitation of regular site safety walks, holding coordination meetings with all contractors on site, ensuring that access/egress to the site is controlled and maintaining a site log/diary. Review the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements. Ensure the PC is proactive in holding Site Progress Meetings and issues minutes of these Meetings. Support Quality Assurance monitoring across the Major Project. Undertake the role of Engineers representative for sensible monitoring of site construction activities and be familiar with all aspects of the contract documentation. Enacting the role of Employers ‘Supervisor’ under NEC contracts. Issue site instructions following agreement from the EPC Project Manager and authenticate any record sheets issued by the Principal Contractor. Assist the Commissioning Engineer to review and confirm that the PC Commissioning programme is acceptable from a delivery perspective. Ensure that a drawing documentation system is established on site, which clearly indexes drawings logged and filed in specific sections. Maintain the system throughout with the latest working drawings/revisions clearly noted and drawings filed to ensure they are readily available. Coach, mentor other members of staff as and when required. What you'll bring Good interpersonal and communication skills Technical or Specialist. Extensive experience of construction standards especially with regards to earthworks, civil construction, Substations, Cabling and or Tunnelling. Basic Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply. Basic understanding of various Contract forms FIDIC etc. Expert understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices and policies. Good knowledge of CDM Regulations. Previous experience of project site management capability of working to deadlines and in a contracting environment. Financial Control - Experience Required Specific Knowledge and experience of design, installation and commissioning of HVDC Cables or Complex EHV installations a distinct advantage. Minimum Requirement Essential to have a current full UK driving licence. Expert knowledge of one or more disciplines: Earthworks, Civil construction, Substations, Cabling and or Tunnelling NEBOSH, IOSH or SMSTS Extensive experience of working at 275kV and 400kV Essential HNC / HND or equivalent experience in an engineering and or construction discipline. Formal training in the following areas: Construction H&S, CDM, Risk Assessment & Method Statements, Environmental, Duty of Care and Waste Management, Contract Terms and Conditions. Familiar with Basic Safety Rules and hold ‘Person’ and “BESC” Authorisation but trained to Competent Person standard, with supplementary authorisations as applicable.
