Job Description
Job Title: 1:1 ABA Specialist Location: Peterborough Contract Type: Contract/ Temporary Hours: 15-30 Hours Start Date: ASAP Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 ABA Specialist to work closely with a Year 8 male student who has an Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plan. The role involves implementing individualized ABA techniques and strategies to support the student’s learning, social development, and behavioral needs. You will be working collaboratively with the classroom teacher, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other support staff to provide an inclusive educational experience and to help the student achieve their potential. Key Responsibilities: Behavioral Support: Implement individualized ABA interventions and strategies as outlined in the student’s EHC Plan to improve social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes. Data Collection: Monitor and record the student’s progress by tracking behaviors, skills, and responses to interventions, providing regular feedback to the SENCO and other relevant staff. Social Skills Development: Support the student in developing appropriate social skills, communication, and peer relationships, including helping with social interactions in and outside the classroom. Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to develop and review educational plans and ensure the student’s needs are being met. Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one support to ensure the student is engaged in learning activities, managing transitions, and maintaining focus during lessons. Promoting Independence: Encourage the student to develop self-regulation skills, independence in learning tasks, and other life skills as part of their long-term development goals. Positive Reinforcement: Use positive reinforcement techniques to increase desired behaviors, decrease inappropriate behaviors, and motivate the student to actively participate in school activities. Crisis Management: Be prepared to respond to behavioral challenges in a calm and professional manner, ensuring the safety and well-being of the student and others in the classroom. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of sessions, behavioral data, and progress notes to inform future planning and review sessions. Essential Skills & Experience: Experience working with children with special educational needs, preferably in a school setting. A solid understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques. Familiarity with Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plans and how to implement strategies outlined in them. Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanor, with a focus on positive behavior support. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work as part of a team. Ability to build rapport with students, especially those with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. A proactive and solution-focused approach to working with students with additional needs. A commitment to ensuring that all students receive an inclusive and supportive education. Desirable Qualifications: A relevant qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN), ABA, or a related field (e.g., a degree or certification in psychology, education, or behavior analysis). Experience with specific interventions such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) or TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication-Handicapped Children) is a plus.
