Posting Details Posting Number: 20254283S Position Title: HVAC Technician 2nd Class Position Type: Staff Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Avg Hours Week Department: 805 - HVAC Systems Position Summary Under moderate supervision, operates, maintains all building Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) systems and equipment in order to provide a comfortable and safe environment in all University facilities including classrooms, laboratories, offices, student residences, and refrigerators and freezers in accordance with applicable standards of the trade and regulatory agencies. Duties and Responsibilities Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs building HVACR equipment consistent with manufacturer’s guidelines, operating design parameters, and accepted practices to optimize energy use. Installs HVACR units, including electronic, electrical, and mechanical components and connections. Installs HVACR ductwork including flexible tubing and sheet metal construction. Troubleshoots and repairs HVACR units including electronic, electrical, and mechanical components and connections. Maintains and makes operating repairs on electrical equipment and appliances, oil and gas equipment, refrigerators/freezers, and other refrigeration equipment. Operates and keeps in good working order a variety of equipment including hand tools, mobile electronic devices, measuring/diagnostic/testing meters, and instruments. Conserves, installs, recycles, and reclaims refrigerants. Reads and interprets complex blueprints, sketches, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Performs brazing, silver and lead soldering, pipefitting, welding, and fabrication as required. Coordinates repairs with other trades affected by HVAC operations. Assists in furniture and event set ups and breakdowns, decorations for special functions, meetings, etc. Performs other duties as assigned within the normal scope of the department’s responsibilities and the individual’s capabilities. Minimum Qualifications HS diploma or equivalent and current documentation indicating successful completion of formal training classes or programs in HVACR work. Currently classified and working as HVAC Technician 3rd Class and meets and maintains all qualifications for HVAC Technician 3rd Class. A minimum of two years of service in the trade at Villanova University (upon the discretion of Facilities Management). Must possess and maintain personal hand tools required for the trade. Ability to research information from various sources to facilitate repairs of campus HVAC/R equipment. Ability to perform preventative maintenance on all campus HVAC/R equipment under moderate supervision. Ability to troubleshoot and repair central heating/cooling air distribution systems. Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain an excellent safety record. Must not have any disciplinary actions on file within the previous twelve months of applying for this position. Must possess current ANSI/OSHA compliant training card to operate aerial lift, bucket truck, forklift, or all. Preferred Qualifications Current OSHA 10 certification or higher and ability to operate aerial/scissor lift, bucket truck and forklift. Physical Requirements Must have the physical ability to climb ladders, to bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs.; the ability to work in enclosed spaces. Core hours are M-F 7:30am until 4:00pm. Coming in earlier or staying later would be expected if emergency repairs are required. 2 positions needed. Special Message to Applicants Applicants must take a timed (1.5hrs) 135 question pre-qualification exam. All needed formulas for the exam questions will be given with the exam. Following the exam, a verbal panel style interview will be conducted lasting approximately 1 hour.
