Job Description

Technical Sales Manager - Metallurgical Services Role Overview As a Sales Manager in Metallurgical Services, you will be self-driven and highly customer-focused. Your primary responsibility will be to identify sales opportunities and follow up on leads, generating inquiries for Iron Making and Caster equipment spares, services, and products. Building strong customer relationships will be key to securing future project prospects. You will serve as the main point of contact for your customers, ensuring prompt responses to quotation requests. By understanding customers' investment rationale and objectives, you will strategically plan Metallurgical Services activities to secure profitable orders and drive sustainable growth for the business. You will manage customer orders from inquiry to delivery, maintaining direct communication throughout the process. Key Responsibilities Identify, create, and drive sales opportunities for maintenance, repair, refurbishments, upgrades, spares, and products. Develop effective client relationships through systematic communication, including regular visits. Identify key customer stakeholders and understand their investment plans. Evaluate inquiries, assess sales opportunities, and define bid strategies. Plan, lead, and manage the bid process in compliance with company regulations. Provide customers with budget estimates, fixed price offers, and optimal delivery schedules. Negotiate and secure contracts with support from proposals and legal services. Ensure smooth handover from sales to project management to mitigate risks during project execution. Liaise with Product Life-cycle Managers and R&D to communicate market requirements and competitive responses. Coordinate with the Supply Chain Management Team to ensure seamless order execution. Collaborate with engineering to ensure timely and budget-compliant technical clarifications and activities. Work with marketing/communications to produce effective publicity materials, including press releases, brochures, and editorials. Required Skills and Experience Essential: Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience. Sales-oriented with a strong understanding of the metals or heavy engineering industry. Proven track record in sales performance and customer relationship management. Strategic awareness of cost-effective engineering and manufacturing facilities. Strong leadership and decision-making skills with attention to detail. Commercial awareness of key legal and contractual issues. Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Strong customer focus with an understanding of technical and commercial requirements. Ability to self-manage and stay motivated, especially under pressure and changing situations. Desirable: Experience in various roles within the metals industry, including engineering, proposals, sales, and order management, with specific knowledge of Iron Making and Casting. Familiarity with the sales/bidding process. Ability to speak multiple languages. Previous international travel experience and understanding of global cultural sensitivities. Additional Information This role requires travel, sometimes at short notice, and may involve working outside of core hours to meet customer deadlines. The candidate must have a current UK Driving License and the right to live and work in the UK, with the ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
