DevOps Engineer (Python/GIS)

They provide award-winning personal, commercial and specialty insurance products and services direct-to-customers, via brokers and affinity partners. On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for a DevOps Engineer (Python/GIS) for a 6 month contract, based remotely, with travel to London 1-2 times per month. Flexible working hours are also available. Purpose of the Role: The DevOps Engineer (Python/GIS) will support with management and delivery of internal, GeoRisk team, software solutions. The GIS software solution, which serves data and services through a series of API's to internal stakeholders, requires monthly releases to update data currency, maintain versioning, and provide new functionality. Simultaneously, we are looking to improve and automate our release process. Responsibilities of the role: As a DevOps Engineer (Python/GIS) you will be responsible for: Managing incoming requirements to define the scope of each monthly release. Executing monthly releases in collaboration with IT support teams (out of hours) . Effectively communicating release results to stakeholders. Identifying automation opportunities. Developing and delivering an automated deployment pipeline for the GIS software solution. Supporting and educating the team in the deployment pipeline process. Checking, troubleshooting and validating deliverables before submission. Enforcing good practice and adopting strong controls with respect to work quality and developed software, ensuring thorough QA and extensive documentation is always adopted. What we require from the candidate: Advanced knowledge of Python scripting and SQL. Experience delivering software products, managing updates and building deployment pipelines. Experience with Continuous Integration in Azure or AWS would be beneficial. GIS experience particularly ArcGIS Pro would be of benefit. Experience of working directly with stakeholders from different Business areas. Able to challenge standard thinking and fostering an increasingly data led business. Ability to balance competing priorities and workstreams to deliver the best possible outcomes. 5 year experience delivering software solutions and automated deployments.
