Base pay range $70,000.00/yr - $90,000.00/yr Executive Director of the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation (ISSNAF) ISSNAF is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that aims to promote scientific, academic and technological cooperation between Italy and North America in all disciplines. Its mission is to connect, empower and celebrate the Italian Intellectual Diaspora in North America, and help retain a shared Italian identity and culture. ISSNAF facilitates the creation of a bridge between Italy and North America to support R&D and innovation, creating and/or administering programs for talented researchers and students in advanced research centers in NA, facilitating technology scouting and supporting workforce development and education through mobility experiences. ISSNAF administers the Young Investigator (YI) Awards to recognize on a yearly basis outstanding early career Italian researchers who work in North America in selected fields, and mentoring programs. Job Type : Half-time, Contract (Duration: 12 months, renewable) Location : Italy (travel within Italy and North America is expected). Work is remote. Job Summary The Executive Director will oversee the successful operation of ISSNAF reporting directly to the President. The Executive Director will supervise and manage the ISSNAF staff and other collaborators and provide leadership and mentoring to the rest of the volunteers and collaborators as needed. Work closely with the President and Board of Directors (BOD) to develop long-range plans and budgets for ISSNAF programs, activities, and events, including researcher mobility, mentoring and awards programs, symposia, and ISSNAF interactions with (and in support of) universities, Italian Government sponsors, foundations and other stakeholders. Manage and direct all programs and special events as well as public relations, public outreach (both virtual and otherwise) and outward-facing representation of ISSNAF via the website and social media. Develop and maintain relationships with ISSNAF members, ISSNAF Chapters, the research community at-large. Develop and maintain relationships with external sponsors and/or organizers of programs, and relevant industry and organizations. Develop and cultivate contacts for business development, including preparation of proposals and/or fundraising events. Report to the BOD as needed. Support the BOD with committee duties and other activities as needed. Manage and direct all ISSNAF business operations to ensure the health of the programs. This includes providing direction and guidance to support volunteers and collaborators, ensuring compliance with policies and implementing ongoing processes used by ISSNAF. Manage finances of ISSNAF including tracking, monitoring, reporting and projections for all accounts to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of transactions. Oversee generation of presentations and progress reports about ISSNAF activities and provide input for funding proposals. When appropriate, liaise directly with the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC, the Consular network in North America and Italian Government offices in Italy. Other duties as required. Required Qualifications Graduate degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline, communications, business, education, social science, law or related field. 5 years of related work experience. Fluent in oral and written English and Italian. Strong presentation and writing skills to represent ISSNAF internally and externally. Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction and in the face of uncertainty. Demonstrated superior expertise in organizing and managing multiple projects. Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills – including the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of academic, industrial and government organizations. Proven experience in the research environment, ideally within the context of internationally funded projects, such as those supported by the European Commission (e.g., Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions or similar initiatives) and/or the US. A positive attitude and customer focus and appreciation for the importance of diversity and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications Background in international affairs, corporate communications. Background in law, with a particular focus on European Union regulations and policies, including aspects related to EU funding mechanisms and programs. Knowledge of regulatory environment for US non-profits and Italian regulations governing interactions with US non-profits. Experience with non-profit foundations.
