Job Specification: Civil Construction Tender Estimator Location: Paarl Salary: R40,000 R50,000 pm Position Overview A well-established civil construction company in Paarl is seeking a qualified and experienced Estimator to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing tender administration, pricing, construction support, and cost management. Key Responsibilities A. Tender Administration Request and obtain the latest FEM, BCCEI certificates, and other necessary documentation from relevant departments in advance. Secure the latest Tax Clearance Pin. Manage the renewal (annually and three-yearly) and upgrade applications for CIDB certification. B. Tender Process (Phase 1) Monitor advertisements to identify new tender opportunities. Attend tender and site inspections. Request and compare material prices during the tender phase. Consult with Consulting Engineers to obtain BOQs and clarify any uncertainties. Prepare tender pricing using EJM software. Develop Tender Programs using MS Projects. Complete and submit tender documents, ensuring all supporting documentation is included and deadlines are met. C. Tender Process (Phase 2 Post-Success) Negotiate improved contract material prices. Issue bulk material orders and follow up on progress. Organize and conduct kick-off meetings with the Contract Manager, Site Agent, and relevant teams. D. Construction Stage Conduct site visits to compare on-site processes and outputs with tender estimates, taking corrective actions as needed. Develop new rates for additional works or scope changes during the project lifecycle. E. Reporting Review the Site Certificate Register and Current/Future Projects reports prior to distribution. Collaborate with the Quantity Surveyor to prepare cost management reports. F. EJM Management Update the Masterbill to reflect additions or changes as required. Address and resolve errors or shortcomings in EJM promptly. G. Cost Management Work with the Quantity Surveyor on cost management reports. Lead and coordinate cost management meetings. H. Public Relations Act as a liaison with suppliers, clients, and engineers. Draft and send formal correspondence to engineers, clients, or suppliers as necessary. I. General Perform additional tasks and follow instructions aligned with your skills and job scope. Qualifications and Experience Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying. 3 to 5 years of field experience. Minimum of 5 years in estimating roles. Key Competencies Proficiency in programming and estimator software (e.g., EJM, MS Projects). Strong attention to detail. Ability to perform effectively under pressure. Exceptional planning, administration, and time management skills. Strong negotiation and client relationship management skills. Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
