Principal Electrical Engineer

Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a global engineering company that specialises in project management and consultancy services within the nuclear sector to recruit a Principal Electrical Engineer in Glasgow, Scotland. The Principal Electrical Design Engineer role comes with a salary of up to £70,000 and company car. The key responsibility of this role is to lead and manage key design and construction activities for high-risk, high-complexity projects, primarily in a maritime environment. Responsibilities and duties As a Principal Electrical Engineer you will: Attend project meetings, design reviews, and hazard identification workshops. Manage stakeholder communication throughout the project lifecycle. Oversee external engineering consultants and contractors. Prepare and review technical documentation, including design substantiation reports and safety-related assessments. Manage design changes, concessions, and updates to key documents. Author and maintain examination, inspection, maintenance, and testing (EIMT) schedules. Supervise on-site construction and commissioning activities. Provide technical direction to ensure compliance with design intent and safety standards. Review contractor work plans, method statements, and risk assessments. Support the development of safety cases and periodic safety reviews. Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards. Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following: Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng) or equivalent experience. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent experience. Strong knowledge of electrical engineering design standards (British & European Standards). Experience in designing, assessing, and specifying high and low voltage systems. Familiarity with industrial systems (pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, PAVA). Proven ability to develop technical justifications for design modifications in high-hazard environments. Experience working on multi-discipline projects, ideally in defence or maritime sectors.
