Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Exterior Team Location: England Job Type: Full Time, Contract Company Overview: Working with a leading UK automotive manufacturer known for producing cutting-edge vehicles. As we continue to innovate and enhance our product line, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Exterior Trim Design team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on world-class automotive design and contribute to the development of the next generation of vehicles. Position Overview: As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer on our Exterior team, you will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of exterior trim components, ensuring that they meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. You will play a key role in leading complex design projects, working with cross-functional teams, and mentoring and training a new generation of engineers, and building up a new team. Your expertise in NX and exterior trim design will be crucial to the success of the team and the overall product. Key Responsibilities: Lead the mechanical design and development of exterior trim components, including bumpers, grilles, mirrors, lighting housings, and other exterior parts. Utilize NX (Siemens) CAD software to create detailed 3D models, drawings, and technical specifications for production. Ensure designs meet all technical, safety, regulatory, and cost requirements, as well as aesthetic objectives. Collaborate with other teams, such as manufacturing, materials, and quality, to ensure successful implementation of designs. Manage project timelines, deliverables, and coordinate with suppliers to ensure smooth development and production processes. Provide technical leadership to junior engineers, offering guidance, training, and support in design and problem-solving. Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and methodologies, promoting best practices within the team. Resolve technical issues and challenges related to design, testing, and manufacturing during development and production phases. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, materials, and technologies to ensure our designs are innovative and competitive. Key Requirements: Experience: Ideally, 15-20 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong focus on exterior trim components in the automotive industry. Technical Expertise: In-depth experience with NX (Siemens) CAD software for 3D modeling and design. Proven track record in the design of exterior trim components (bumpers, grilles, side mouldings, etc.). Project History: A demonstrated history of successfully leading and delivering exterior trim design projects from concept through to production. Must have experience in working with both internal teams and external suppliers. Leadership: Experience in mentoring or training junior engineers, with the ability to lead by example and inspire others. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to overcome design and production challenges effectively. Collaboration: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners. Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and a passion for creating high-quality, functional, and aesthetically pleasing designs. Qualifications: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience). Preferred Skills: Experience with advanced manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, thermoforming, etc.) and materials selection for exterior trim. Familiarity with automotive regulatory standards and quality control processes. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple projects running simultaneously.
