Job Description

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS A Bachelors degree in ecology, nature conservation, wildlife management, zoology or a related subject is desirable but not essential Proven record of experience with field work and the ability to use heavy machinery and conduct maintenance work is essential. In this regard, the post-holder must have: At least 1 year experience in field work related to game management, fence maintenance and the use of herbicides. At least 1 year experience working with a variety of agricultural and earth moving equipment (chainsaw, tractor, pumps, TLB etc). Experience in leading small teams and managing workplans. SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED Knowledge of local fauna, flora, and habitats, species identification skills. Fluency in written and spoken Afrikaans and English. A basic understanding of Xhosa is desirable. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Experience with technical research equipment (GPS, camera trap, telemetric tracking equipment etc.) Firearm competency. Must be physically fit. PERSONALITY TRAITS REQUIRED Passionate about wildlife and wildlife conservation. Able to work independently in remote areas and spending periods of time in the field under challenging environmental conditions. Responsible, working on own initiative with minimum supervision and staying on task. Well-organised, punctual, adaptive, and forthcoming. Working well with a multicultural team. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Cheetah monitoring. Electrified fence status monitoring and maintenance. Assistance with wildlife management actions such as wildlife monitoring, hunting, culling, game capture and the implementation of feeding protocols. Assistance with the implementation of invasive alien plant control and habitat rehabilitation plans. Help with the development and implementation of work plans in coordination with the Wildlife Ecologist and Operational Managers. The post-holder will supervise the fence maintenance contract team in collaboration with his/her supervisor. Ensure responsible management, maintenance and tracking of technical equipment.
