Job Description

At Arsenale, we’re at the forefront of a new era in biomanufacturing by making precision fermentation viable at an industrial scale. Our unique end-to-end, software-first platform challenges the status quo by enabling companies to co-design with nature and manufacture at scale at a fraction of the cost. By combining cutting-edge technology with an anti-disciplinary mindset, we drive innovation and shape biomanufacturing's future. Position Overview: Arsenale is seeking a highly skilled Fermentation Scientist with a strong background in production microbiology and extensive experience in fermentation systems ranging from pilot to large-scale. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in equipment design, validation, and operation, particularly in precision fermentation at a large scale. As a Fermentation Scientist, you will be pivotal in implementing and operating Arsenale's proprietary bioreactor systems, working closely with our Head of Engineering, Data and AI team, and third-party collaborators. Position Summary (What You Will Do): Collaborate closely with equipment vendors to design, procure, install, and operate upstream and downstream fermentation equipment, preparing and executing bioreactor runs. Monitor and support the execution of end-to-end workflows at the pilot scale, ensuring smooth operations and preparing for large-scale production at our demonstration plant. Facilitate tech transfers on a large scale, working closely with clients and our R&D team to execute fermentation and downstream processes efficiently. Utilise strong microbiology expertise to troubleshoot and innovate complex systems independently within a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment. Apply working knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) frameworks and interpret biostatistical data analysis to optimise fermentation processes. Demonstrate proficiency in fermentation control and integration software, contributing to the continuous improvement of our systems. Maintain excellent communication and collaboration with internal teams, external partners, and clients, meeting project objectives. Pay meticulous attention to detail and uphold all operations' highest quality and safety standards. Qualifications: PhD in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Microbiology, or related field. Relevant experience in production engineering focusing on microbial fermentation systems, including bench to pilot scale. Extensive hands-on experience in precision fermentation down to 5 litres and up to 50,000 litres. Experience in yeast fermentation and the supporting downstream is a strong plus. Proficiency in Italian and English languages, both verbal and written. Strong interpersonal skills and working effectively in a collaborative team environment. Familiarity with fermentation control and integration software is highly desirable. Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Self-motivated and proactive with a passion for innovation and problem-solving. Our commitment: You belong at Arsenale BioYards Join us to become an Arsenalotto. We are committed to creating an environment that promotes belonging, acceptance, and safety. We appreciate, value, and embrace the unique differences of our team members, business associates, candidates, and stakeholders. We believe it is powerful to embed diversity in all aspects of our business—it is at the core of our culture. Arsenale’s responsibility and dedication to our ethical principles ensure an equitable workplace with a diverse, dynamic team of professionals. Diversity is fundamental to our mission to design scale and commercialise precision fermentation for a better world. Are you worried that you don’t exactly meet all the desired criteria? At Arsenale, we are anti-disciplinarian and passionate about inclusion for all. If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align precisely with every part of the job description, we encourage you to apply. You may be the right candidate for this role or another, and our recruitment team can help you see how your skills fit in. J-18808-Ljbffr
