Organizational Setting The Agrifood Economics and Policy Division (ESA) conducts economic research and policy analysis and provides evidence-based support to national, regional, and global policy processes. The position is based at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, within the Investments for Sustainable Markets, Agribusiness, and Rural Transformations (iSMART) team. The role will require close collaboration with FAO's NSL, ESN, and NSP divisions to ensure alignment of economic strategies with agronomic, nutritional, and soil management insights. Reporting Lines The Economist (SoilFER-VACS) reports to the Senior Economist (iSMART), ESA. Technical Focus The Economist will provide technical expertise in advanced economic analysis, specializing in micro-economic techniques and tools, including econometric methods and impact evaluation techniques. The role demands robust quantitative and analytical skills to drive policy formulation and evaluate the economic impacts of interventions related to soil fertility management. Key Results Research and analysis of information, data, and statistics to support the delivery of programme products, projects, publications, and services. Key Functions Researches and analyses data to provide technical, statistical, and/or policy-related information. Produces technical reports and input for publications. Provides technical, statistical, and analytical services on various studies. Participates in the development of improved technical tools and methodologies. Collaborates in capacity development activities. Promotes knowledge sharing at international meetings. Participates in resource mobilization activities. Specific Functions Contributes to economic research using advanced econometric and spatial methods. Analyses the impact of policies promoting soil fertility for food security and nutrition. Provides support in organizing data collection processes. Implements investment prioritization techniques in selected territories. Drafts reports related to economic assessment of agrifood systems and policies. Performs other duties as required. Minimum Requirements Advanced university degree in economics or related field. Five years of relevant experience in economic and quantitative analysis of agrifood systems. Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language. Technical/Functional Skills Work experience in multiple locations or areas of work. Experience in applied quantitative research in agrifood systems. Experience in economic and policy analysis of agrifood systems. Excellent programming skills in specialized software. Quality of oral and written communication in English. Ability to manage and present quantitative information effectively. Capacity to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. GENERAL INFORMATION FAO reserves the right not to make an appointment.
