Job Description
Organisation/Company: Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Research Field: Medical sciences » Medicine Researcher Profile: Recognised Researcher (R2), Leading Researcher (R4), First Stage Researcher (R1), Established Researcher (R3) Country: Italy Application Deadline: 20 Jan 2025 - 23:59 (UTC) Type of Contract: To be defined Job Status: Not Applicable Is the job funded through the EU Research Framework Programme? Other EU programme Is the Job related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure? No Offer Description The project will address the role of the organic cation transporter Slc22a4/OCTN1 in the inflammatory response elicited in monocytes by commensal and pathogenic bacteria associated with chronic inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. Both these diseases, in which an altered microbiota and intestinal dysbiosis may have a causative role, are genetically linked with a specific variant, L503F, of the transporter. The project will test the hypothesis that the carrier physiologically participates in microbe-host communication by transporting bacterial metabolites or structural components to be identified and that a deranged function in the L503F variant facilitates aberrant inflammatory responses and possibly inflammation-associated cancer in predisposed individuals. Since OCTN1 is a potentially druggable molecule, the project has strong translational implications. Eligibility of fellows: Country/ies of residence: EUROPE Nationality/ies: J-18808-Ljbffr
