This crosstalk plays a key role in the progression of cancer, and one of the most abundant cell types in the tumor stroma are the cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). CAFs have the ability to remodel the extracellular matrix and produce cytokines and growth factors, which promote tumor growth. The research activity will focus on studying the processes that could promote melanoma development by examining the HSF1-Wnt pathway in CAFs. Moreover, the project aims to identify the molecular mechanisms by which stromal fibroblasts are reprogrammed to acquire tumor-promoting properties.
