Your responsibilities You will personally handle litigation for the Aviation Department's clients and oversee the litigation of other lawyers. Assume primary responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of the department's attorneys and staff, including trainees and claims coordinators. Be responsive to the Head of Department's instructions, and report progress to the Head of Department and/or Directors. Maintain close personal contact with the department's clients, build strong relationships with the legal department staff, and ensure that the department's services fully meet the particular needs of each client. Help promote the work of the company in general and the aviation department in particular, and contribute to the acquisition of new business. Your profile Qualified lawyer experienced in civil law Excellent knowledge of civil procedure law Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong client relations skills to build positive, collaborative, and professional relationships You are a team player with a constant interest in further development High level of trustworthiness, discretion, and good judgement Excellent organization and ability to be productive and flexible independently and comfortable in a performance-oriented environment Excellent research skills Ability to work under pressure without neglecting the details Self-confidence and willingness to use and give feedback Excellent command of written and spoken English Interest in European law issues as well as international aviation law agreements What will you do? Represent Oracle Solicitors in matters involving the aviation regulators. Deal with delegated cases as required, reporting progress to the Head of Department and/or Directors. Handle own clients or casework in whatever category their cases require. Ensure quality of service levels and legal advice are to standard, both in respect of their own work. Follow internal methods, policies, and procedures. Remain informed of changes in any area of specialization, such that service quality is always maintained. Work as part of a team. Prepare for trials and other hearings. Conduct legal research and gather relevant information on a case, which includes researching the facts of the case as well as identifying appropriate laws, judicial decisions, and legal articles relevant to the case. Draft and review legal documents, including drafting correspondence, defences, orders, witness statements, written submissions, briefs to counsel, and skeleton arguments. Respond to clients’ requests, emails, and post in a prompt and professional manner as well as answer telephones/emails in a professional manner. Take statements from witnesses and other parties. Assist during trial by taking notes, preparing exhibits, preparing files, and reading court transcripts. The work of the department consists mainly of defending compensation claims based on Regulation (EC) 261/2004, but also includes a variety of other litigation and advisory activities through all instances. You will be expected to take personal responsibility for litigating the more complex and strategically important cases.
