In the literature, some studies have shown the editing of the mRNA of specific genes with functions in the central nervous system, particularly in neuronal plasma membranes. We have shown that SMN1 and SMN2 mRNA, responsible and modulator of the clinical severity of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), respectively, undergo editing. In the present project, we will define the role of SMN2 mRNA editing as a modulator of phenotypic severity. Additionally, we will try to identify the genes responsible for this process by developing cell models.
