As part of our continued support to a major customer in the space industry, we are looking for a Quality Inspector to ensure the conformity of satellite components to customer requirements and support quality assurance efforts in the Treatment area of the client's facility. This role involves conducting quality inspections, monitoring cleanliness and contamination standards, and ensuring on-time, on-cost delivery with a "right first time" approach. The Treatment area is a crucial part of the manufacturing process, encompassing surface treatments, hardware cleanliness, and adherence to strict standards for spacecraft production. The role will be based on-site at the customer's facility in Stevenage. This is a contract position that has been deemed as inside IR35, the rate will be dependent on experience, seniority etc. Inspection Activities: Perform detailed inspections of satellite components such as heatpipes, doublers, inserts, panel skins, and structural poles. Use hand measuring tools and perform critical tasks like helicoil installation inspections, friction blasting surface checks, and surface treatment application inspections (e.g., Paint, BR127, Surtec). Record findings, raise Non-Conformance (NC) or Occurrence Reports (OR) for deviations, and ensure proper corrective actions.Quality Assurance Oversight: Act as the Quality Representative for the cleanroom, maintaining cleanliness, tool calibration, and process standards. Conduct AIT process audits, environmental checks, and activity spot checks. Provide guidance to operators to embed quality principles and address potential issues proactively. Ensure defective or out-of-calibration equipment is quarantined.Operational Excellence: Participate in and drive lean initiatives (5S, PPS). Coach manufacturing staff to ensure a robust attestation process. Influence and foster a strong quality mindset among all stakeholders.Data and Reporting: Update the Work To List (WTL) to reflect inspection progress and visibility. Ensure accurate completion of PROUD (Personal Reduction of Undetected Defect) templates after each inspection. Support feedback loops for process improvements through data-driven insights. Meetings & Collaboration Participate in daily area SQCDP meetings, weekly inspection team and quality meetings, and other collaborative forums. Act as the Focal Point for Quality issues in the area, ensuring quick resolution. Strong experience in quality inspection, particularly within manufacturing or aerospace sectors. Proficient with hand measuring tools (M129a) and familiar with surface treatment processes. Knowledge of cleanliness and contamination standards (ISO 9). Competence in raising and managing Non-Conformance Reports (NCs). Understanding of lean practices and initiatives like 5S. Ability to work at height and a good understanding of quality fundamentals. Strong communication skills to coach and guide shop floor operators
