Service Technician

Are you an experienced Service Technician, Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or Mechanical Fitter who is looking for a new and exciting role which involves travelling around the world? Contek Recruitment are currently working with a highly reputable, well-established specialist manufacturing company, who are headquartered in Gloucester, who are currently looking for 2x experienced Service Technicians to join their team. NOTE: We will only consider candidates for this position who are committed to working away for roughly 6 months out of the year on average, two to three weeks at a time. Role Scope: The position involves the setting and testing of capital equipment for the Lead Acid Battery Industry prior to despatch, commissioning in our customer’s overseas factories and the training of operator and maintenance personnel in the use of our equipment. Base Pay Scale: £45,000 - £50,000 per year base salary. Premiums: Service Technicians will earn their basic salary, plus a 25% premium when working away (short haul) and up to a 60% premium when working away (long haul). This will allow Service Technicians to potentially earn an extra £10k-£15k per year based on working away. Working Away: Travelling aspect works out at a 50/50 split per year, on average Service Technicians will spend 6 months of the year working away, in locations such as the USA, Mexico, India, Tunisia, China, Turkey, and more. You will on average be away for 2-3 weeks at any time, before returning to the UK for 2-3 weeks. Allowances: Along with your basic salary and working premiums, Service Technicians will also be entitled to a daily allowance for meals and refreshments when working away. All travel and accommodation are paid for by the company. Working Hours: Our client operate 9-10 working principles, which means that Service Technicians will be entitled to every other Friday as a day off. If you are working away, you will still be required to work, but you will receive the day as an extra day’s holiday. Holiday Entitlement: Holiday entitlement starts at 25 days per year, plus every other Friday and every bank holiday. Your holiday entitlement will increase as you progress with the company. Job Description: Guidance and training will be given to achieve knowledge and capability in the following: Setting and Testing of our client's full range of Battery Assembly equipment/machinery. Final testing and assembly of machinery in preparation of inspection and despatch. Installation and Commissioning of equipment and machinery. Report writing and recommendations following all visits. Keep up to date expense claims and to uphold company expenses policy. Liaise with Sales, Production and Design teams. Extensive worldwide travel including weekend work & travel where required. To ensure that all relevant machine documentation is always completed accurately. To identify opportunities for process, productivity and quality improvements by highlighting issues to management. To adhere to and always apply all workplace management and rules consistently. To actively participate in improvement projects as required. Develop effective relationships with all internal and external stakeholder, customers and suppliers to ensure best outcomes. Embrace the company values and live these by examples, consistent with corporate policies/procedures and legal obligations, both in the UK and overseas. Ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to within operations area including company ethical policies. You may also be required to undertake additional tasks or duties from time to time and which are reasonably within your capabilities. Person Specification: Must have completed a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship. ONC or HNC in Engineering would be an advantage. Mechanically based skillset with a proven track record of mechanical assembly and fault diagnosis. Able to use measuring equipment such as Micrometre and Vernier callipers with an attention to detail. Able to read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings. Able to read and interpret pneumatic drawings and circuits. Fault find pneumatic circuits to component level. Basic understanding of electrical control circuits. Basic understanding of PLC Machine controls. (Allen Bradley is preferred). Experience within panel wiring is desirable. Able to write concise informative reports and offer solutions to problems. Self-motivated and enthusiastic and able to communicate at all levels. Must hold a valid passport and be willing to travel internationally and be very flexible in terms of working hours and travel. Comply with the latest vaccinations, inoculations and blood tests for foreign travel.
