Job Description
Are you a senior/principal level Structural and/or Civil Engineer looking for a permanent role and the opportunity to join a well established Design House consisting of Chartered Surveyors, Architects, Design, Structural and Civil Engineers experiencing a period of expansive growth and success. A background in structural engineering is the requirement and the Client is open to previous industry knowledge. In this role you will be working primarily on Government and MOD buildings/projects and you WILL be required to hold a level of Security Clearance (not necessary to start). Offices in Portsmouth and also in Monmouth you will be working within the Engineering team providing professional solutions to construction problems. Working alongside a talented pool of engineers, this role offers genuine career and personal development. Location should not be a restriction as you can be based out of either office and flexible/hybrid working options will be potentially available should they be required. There is a wide range in terms of salary and will very much depend on level of experience, skills and knowledge. Ideally you will already be Chartered (ICE or StructE) or working towards Chartership. Job Title: Principal Structural Engineer About the Role: The Principal/Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for leading and managing projects, design teams and liaising with stakeholders, clients and contractors on site, to deliver small to large scale infrastructure projects in construction. They also undertake structural design work on a wide range of projects and provide leadership and technical guidance onsite. Responsibilities: Complete all structural engineering design works and implementation to the latest standards, complying with all relevant legislation, building regulations and British Standards. Support clients with technical project advice, ensuring all clients receive a high standard of service. Lead the design and implementation process, collaborating with other engineering professionals and contractors to ensure effective designs and successful project delivery. Monitor on-site construction processes and supervise construction workers, following construction safety guidelines. Support and develop more junior Engineers. Ensure all elements of security, relating to all aspects of the business, are handled in accordance with Company Security Policies. Ensure all work activity and time tracking are managed diligently via Jibble and that activities are correctly assigned. Ensure that all project data is managed in the appropriate job files to enable collaborative working for all stakeholders, including rigorous assignment of job numbers. Ensure all communications are fed through the appropriate Teams channel, rather than Chat, to enable tracking of project decisions and actions. Core Tasks: Provide leadership and ownership of design direction to produce the required engineering designs through to implementation. Prepare and/or modify Civil/Structural engineering calculations, engineering project plans, design, and layout, project specifications, Civil/Structural engineering portion of project proposals, and Civil/Structural portion of project cost estimates. Design and draw structures based on technical specifications and calculations, create structural models by using computer-aided design software, and supervise the production of drawings and 3D BIM models. Select appropriate materials and construction methods, ensuring the strength and durability of the structures. Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards and engineering formulas. Provide technical advice and guidance on safe and efficient design and construction. Respond to PQQ/SQ and ITT and contribute to tender submissions. Conduct feasibility assessments and site inspections. Conduct structural surveys, from large commercial projects to small domestic projects, including structural analysis. Produce clear and well-presented engineering reports, calculations and specifications, and other engineering documentation. Monitor and optimise safety procedures and regulatory compliance. Line Management: The Principal Structural Engineer is accountable to the Head of Department (Civil and Structural) and is responsible for leading their team to ensure successful delivery of outputs, as directed. They are also responsible for directing, developing and appraising junior Engineers within their remit. Qualifications and Skills: BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering or related field, accredited by the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). Previous experience, 5 years, as a Structural Engineer or similar field and excellent knowledge of construction methods and regulations. Member of the IStructE with Incorporated (IEng) status. Strong analytical, reasoning and critical thinking skills, with a high level of accuracy in calculations and design. Excellent spatial planning and co-ordination skills. Excellent time management skills to ensure project deadlines are met. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Current in latest industry developments through CPD. Software skills/experience: Microsoft Office 365 AutoCAD and Revit Autodesk Civil 3D MicroStation Full Driving Licence. Desirable Qualifications and Skills: MEng or masters in a related field accredited by the IStructE. Proven experience of 5 years in a structural engineering position, delivering infrastructure design projects from the initial stages through to project completion. Chartership status (CEng) with the IStructE. Delivery of projects using BIM. Experience of contract preparation. Experience in Project Management and Microsoft Project. Security clearance to work on restricted projects. Salary Details to be discussed at interview: £60,000 - £70,000 car allowance bonus benefits
