Reserve Manager – FYNBOS RESERVE AND ESTATE

Sea Farm Private Nature Reserve is a 260-hectare fynbos reserve situated between Pringle Bay and Bettys Bay. This unique property has 12 shareholders each with a residence on the reserve. The reserve has 6.5 kilometres of coastline, three fynbos vegetation types and an elevation of 340 metres. Sea Farm has an opportunity for a Reserve Manager to oversee the daily management of this protected area and estate. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and capable individual demonstrating a proven track record of estate and/or conservation management experience. This is an ideal position for a physically fit, hands-on person that enjoys working outdoors, using his DIY skills to maintain reserve infrastructure and assets. Key responsibilities and duties - Implementation and execution of all estate activities including security management, access control, contractor management, estate infrastructure maintenance (gates, fences, roads, beach, water plant, water network, vehicle, machinery and equipment). - Implementation and execution of all conservation activities including fire management and firebreaks, soil erosion control, alien vegetation control, land restoration, fynbos management, conservation reporting. - Cultivation of good communications and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders - Management of small reserve team (full time employee/s) and contract teams. - Compilation of operational budgets and regular administrative and financial reports - Tertiary qualification in nature conservation (e.g. conservation diploma) will be an advantage - Minimum 5 years conservation and/or estate management experience - Skilled in DIY maintenance (welding, plumbing, electrical, general repairs) - Proficient in English and Afrikaans - Competent in administration and computer literate (Word, Excel, online research). - Good written and verbal communication skills - Project management, planning and report writing skills - Experience of people management - Valid drivers license - Knowledge of the fynbos environment advantageous - Experience of estate management advantageous About the job - Live-in position on-site, newly constructed house with adjacent reserve workshop and yard. - Cost to Company package of R506 000 per year consisting of performance incentives, monthly salary of R26 300 and housing and utilities benefits of R13 000 per month. - Responsible to Chairman/Management Committee.
