Job Description

The role requires overseeing, maintaining and continuously improvement of the Food Safety & Quality Management system and related food safety & quality activities for the Ready Meals Gauteng Unit in line with company policy and procedures as well as Customer Standards and requirements. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS Minimum ND Food Technology or BSc Food Science with 8 years or more Experience in Factory Environment or Equivalent. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED At least 8 year’s quality assurance experience in a food processing plant. Previous experience in a management position of at least 2 years Working knowledge of Food Safety Management systems such as FSSC 22000 or equivalent is a must. Auditing skills internal and lead auditor Working knowledge of IBL will be to your advantage KNOWLEDGE: Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Prerequisite Programmes (PRPs) Food Safety Management Systems (FSSC 22000) Woolworths Food Safety and Quality Policy and other related customer requirements Food Safety Legislation Food Processing Microsoft Office Literacy SKILLS: Auditing Trouble shooting Data and Trend Analysis Research Report writing FSSC 22000 or equivalent implementation and management is a must ABILITIES: Excellent Verbal and Written Communication skills in English Excellent problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills Ability to influence others. Analytical approach Ability to work independently and in a team Manage and Mentor a Team of people PERSONAL TRAITS: Assertive Creative Analytical Self-starter Diligent and Hardworking JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOOD SAFETY TEAM LEADER As per ISO22000:2018 and additional FSSC requirements Liaising with the Ready meals Food safety team and technical team on matters pertaining to Food Safety Update of the Food Safety Objectives Maintaining the factory specific Food Safety Management system Annual review of the Food Safety Management system, as defined by the scope of documentation within your control. Reviewing and updating of the Policies and Procedures, Work instructions and various templates at frequencies as stipulated in the Control of Documented Information procedures. Consulting with the Technical Manager Gauteng and Systems Technologist on new documents/requirements and changes to existing documents, procedures, and templates. Review and implement new requirements as needed. Communication of any documentation changes to the Food Safety Team. Assist document the Changes register in line with planning of changes, by identifying documentation and or processes affected and the status of FSMS updating, in-line with changes. TRAINING Manage training requirements wrt. Allergen Management, Good Manufacturing practices and other technical training Review training material and evaluations for site specific training such as CCP and OPRP training. Manage the Training Needs Analysis (TNA) of Team Mentor subordinates FACTORY HYGIENE AND GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICES: Managing the completion of required actions for any non-conformances arising from external and internal audits. Ensure that personnel are aware of the relevance and importance of their individual activities in contributing to food safety and quality. Ensure that the requirement for effective communication is understood by all personnel whose activities have an impact on food safety and quality. Identify resource needs to achieve set out quality and food safety objectives. Monitor progress against set out objectives and guide team in their activities to achieve set out objectives. Guide the Operations and Technical team in terms of Hygiene and Good Manufacturing practices. Review Master Cleaning Schedule, Dismantling and Cleaning instructions Consult with Cleaning, Chemical and Pest Control Service Providers regarding requirements Manage Pathogens according to the standards and guidelines SENIOR FOOD TECHNOLOGIST Assist and Manage Senior Food Technologist with their duties. Assist Senior Technologists in managing QC’s and Cleaners. Implement and maintain QC related activities/checks in the factory. Ensure proper record keeping of all related QC activities. Review and guide Category Technologists with Customer complaint investigation and feedback. Sign off Customer complaint feedback. Review customer complaints and report trends relating to customer complaints to the Operations Team. Oversee trending of Customer Complaints. Manage any projects relating to their categories. NPD & FACTORY TRIALS Manage Process Technologist Manage the CPA of all internally with the Process Technologist Ensure communication is send to all relevant parties (WW and NPD) regarding samples send Ensure Feedback forms are completed and accurate Timeously Ensure Specifications and QCP and completed within required timelines INTERNAL AUDITS Set up Internal Audit Schedule – pertaining to PRP monthly audits. Monitor and review the execution and effectiveness of Internal audits (System and PRP) and Non-conformances raised. Internal Audit training as required. Review Internal audit non-conformance trends and liaise with systems technologist & related managers of trends identified. Verification of corrections and corrective actions for internal audit non-conformances raised. EXTERNAL AUDITS Participation in External Certification & customer audits. Managing corrective action plans. VALIDATIONS Manage with Systems technologist on the brief for CCP and OPRP validations and coordinate the completion and reporting of factory specific validations COMMUNICATION Manage all communications regarding food safety and Quality matters Ad hoc duties Perform ad hoc duties in terms of food Safety and quality as requested by the Technical Manager Gauteng. E.g., ad hoc weekend work.
