CAD Technician – Building Services and Renewable Energy Design
Our client, a forward-thinking building services company specializing in M&E and renewable energy system designs, is seeking a highly skilled CAD Technician to join their team. This role is based in Sheffield, with flexible working arrangements available, reflecting their national presence with offices in London and Carlisle. Occasional travel to construction sites across the
UK may also be required.
The Role
The CAD Technician will play a key role in the design and delivery of innovative energy projects, supporting the pre-construction and construction phases. Working collaboratively with a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, high-quality technical drawings that contribute to delivering outstanding building services and renewable energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Technical Drawing Creation: Develop detailed technical drawings and plans, including 2D and 3D models, using CAD software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
• PointCloud File Conversion: Generate layout drawings from PointCloud files.
• Compliance & Standards: Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, health and safety regulations, and project requirements.
• Documentation: Prepare installation and manufacturing documentation and maintain the CAD library to support BIM processes.
• Site Visits: Conduct on-site surveys and translate findings into detailed designs.
• Presentation & Collaboration: Present working drawings for various project stages, including tendering, manufacturing, and construction.
The Ideal Candidate
Our client is seeking a proactive, enthusiastic professional with a passion for innovative design in the building services sector. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, a meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
Required Experience & Knowledge:
• 3–5 years of experience in CAD engineering design, specifically in M&E building services.
• Expertise in mechanical services design for multi-apartment buildings, energy centres, district heating, CHP, and renewable systems.
• Proficiency in producing fabrication and shop drawings.
• Experience with scanning and PointCloud file conversion into Revit.
Desirable Skills:
• Ability to create detailed schematics for LTHW, DHW, chilled water, ventilation, electrical, and control systems.
• Familiarity with heat and utility networks.
• Proficiency in CAD software, including AutoCAD (2D & 3D) and Revit; experience with Inventor, SolidWorks, or Solid Edge is advantageous.
• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Creative problem-solving abilities and a willingness to challenge conventional design methods.
