Senior Waste Manager
Senior Waste Manager with experience in radioactive characterisation to include DQO (Data Quality Objectives) experience. The role will directly report to the Head of Waste and will be key in providing project management waste support throughout WES UK on a variety of projects.
Location: Harwell
Contract: 18months initial + extension (inside ir35)
Section 2: Key Responsibilities:
Radioactive waste management experience across the waste management lifecycle from strategy development through to characterisation and waste routing/disposal.
Lead on the production of characterisation plans for projects including decommissioning.
Lead on DQO strategy and train others in its application.
Advise on waste management and routing whilst applying proportionality to the strategy to include decisions on waste packages, treatments (including conditioning) and disposals.
Participate in optioneering assessments.
Produce technical reports with justifiable arguments to underpin strategy decisions.
Advise on appropriate waste assay methods to include setting of clearance levels.
Able to prioritise and manage own workload and work concurrently on several projects.
Section 5: Requirements:
Knowledge/Essential Qualifications:
Working knowledge of common Microsoft office programs including cloud-based systems, MS Teams, SharePoint.
Understand provenance, fingerprint data and be able to assess radioactive waste inventories to establish a baseline and develop characterisation plans.
Detailed knowledge & understanding of instrumentation for nuclear operations including waste disposal & recycling.
Skills:
- Excellent numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to work independently on projects.
Ability to interpret and analyses data effectively.
Enthusiastic, motivated, and committed to delivering continuous improvement in challenging circumstances.
Attributes:
Experienced radioactive waste management professional.
- The ability to write well-structured reports that present clear arguments with a sound basis for recommendations.
Experience:
Experience of radioactive characterisation
Experience in DQO and able to demonstrate practical application.
The ability to write well-structured reports that present clear arguments with a sound basis for recommendations.
Experience of non-radioactive characterisation (Desirable)
Hands on experience of sampling a variety of materials in a nuclear setting (Desirable)
Certified Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA) (Desirable)
Understanding of the legislation surrounding the management of radioactive waste in the UK(Desirable)
Understanding of the BAT process and able to support in writing BATs for new build, operational and decommissioning projects (Desirable)
