Job Title: Quantity Surveyor (Decarbonisation)
Location: Glasgow
Hours: 38 hours per week; 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday, 8.00am to 3.00pm Friday
Salary: Depending on experience
Are you a Quantity Surveyor with a passion for decarbonisation and the building sector?
I am on the lookout for a talented and ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join a growing team.
My client is a market leader in the UK’s building sector. They specialise in delivering large-scale decarbonisation projects that play a key role in the UK’s ambitious carbon reduction goals.
They have a portfolio of projects averaging between £5M and £15M, with work spanning across the public and private sectors. They are poised for continued growth as demand for decarbonisation solutions accelerates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Secure the successful financial delivery of projects by controlling costs, progressing monthly valuations, and managing variations and change orders.
- Project Collaboration: Work closely with contracts, estimating, and pre-construction teams to gain a full understanding of each project’s scope.
- Contract Knowledge: Ensure the company remains protected throughout the project by having a strong understanding of various contract forms (e.g., JCT, NEC, FIDEC).
- Subcontractor Engagement: Review and collate subcontractor package awards, engage sub-contractors, handle negotiations, and prepare subcontract documents.
- Monthly Reporting: Track and maintain monthly job performance reporting and provide feedback to the QS Lead.
- Valuations & Payments: Prepare timely monthly valuations, conduct site measurements and work-in-progress reviews, and ensure payments are received according to contract terms. Vet and process subcontractor payments.
- Site Visits: Conduct at least one monthly site visit to report progress to management.
- Commercial Support: Assist with the commercial activities of the business and provide support and advice to project managers as needed.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:
- Education & Experience: A third-level qualification in Surveying or Cost Engineering (or equivalent experience) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar commercial role.
- Contract Knowledge: A strong understanding of different contract forms, including JCT, NEC, and FIDEC.
- Organisational Skills: High standard of organisational and time management skills.
- IT Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills with strong attention to detail.
- Client Engagement: Exceptional client engagement skills.
- Driving License: A current UK driving license is required.
