Job Title: Class 2 Night Trunk Driver
Location: Watford, WD24 7RY
Salary: Up to £35,000 per year
Job Type: Full time, Permanent. 40 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, 10pm – 7am with a 60-minute break.
Main purpose of the role:
Delivery of ambient, chilled and frozen products safely and efficiently to a central distribution point at designated location within set timeframe, ensuring proper handling and delivery of products with a high standard of customer care.
Key job responsibilities:
- Driving a 7.5t – 18t vehicle on a pre-determined drop route, typically delivering 50-60 customers orders to be cross docked at the hub.
- Load ambient chilled and frozen products onto vehicle according to company's specifications.
- Ensure that the correct goods are delivered to the cross-dock location, completing the relevant paperwork.
- Ensure that the goods are actively transferred to the respective vehicles at the cross dock location supporting the driver colleagues on site.
- To drive and park in a manner that is safe and legal. The driver is responsible for any fines for road traffic offences, parking, bus lanes etc.
- Keeps company vehicle clean and ensure it is well maintained, has fuel, oil and is ready to drive.
- Communicates with cross dock hub colleagues by phone to update them of time of deliveries if there have been issues or changes to their estimated time of arrival.
- Follows pre-planned route accurately without deviation from set course.
- Maintains communication with management to be informed of any change of delivery, route or schedule.
- Properly uses and maintains delivery equipment, including handheld PDA.
- Ensure goods are delivered in good condition.
- Ensure vehicle is safe to drive and is clean inside and out, arranging with Supply Chain and Logistics Manager should vehicle change be required.
- Report any vehicle defect to the Supply Chan and Logistics Manager.
- Informs management of any obstructions to making safe, efficient deliveries.
What do you need?
- Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 points)
- No driving disqualifications within the last Three years
- Class 2 Licence to drive 7.5t – 18t vehicle
- Min of 2 years commercial driving experience (will be checked via references)
- Must be 21 years of age or older to comply with our insurance requirements
- May have to lift heavy products and be capable of climbing in and out of the company vehicles
- Good communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to drive long distances and sit for long periods of time
- Ability to work under pressure
- Courteous
