Job Description

Overall, Purpose

The Electrical Engineer will have a strong electrical background in the DNO, IDNO or ICP industry with experience within the renewable or embedded generation sector. They will have industry authorisations with the supporting qualifications and experience. The role itself will support delivery of a portfolio of construction projects providing technical assistance to the project team.

Duties and Responsibilities

To effectively manage the electrical element on a portfolio of construction projects from design handover to construction completion, including all associated cable testing and commissioning assistance.

Provide technical support to the Construction Supervisor and Project Manager.

Chair project technical meetings with the design and operations team, including DNO and client technical advisors.

Review the project throughout the design process and ensure its ready for handover to construction team.

Assist the Project Manager to ensure delivery programme is managed and maintained for each project, ensuring a logical and efficient approach is established, meeting the accepted timescales.

Ensure all electrical works are complainant with the relevant DNO G81, BS standards and clients ER`s

Determine labour & resource requirements for the project and assist the Project manager and commercial team with technical scope for the tenders.

Ensure projects are delivered to exceed the client's expectations.

Project specific responsibilities

Communication: You will recruit (if required) and manage the Construction Supervisor and Site Manager to deliver the project. You will provide technical assistance to the project team and assist with electrical designs. You will also liaise, communicate effectively and timely with g2E colleagues, clients, suppliers and sub-contractors as required. Train and mentor staff as required to fulfil their role.

Contractual & Legal: Familiarise yourself with the Contract between the client and g2E and ensure that the client's requirements are complied with.

Sales/Estimates: Familiarise yourself with the g2E sales estimate/proposal.

Drawings & Specifications: Familiarise yourself and ensure that the project drawings & specifications e.g., DNO G81. Are complied with. Ensure the clients ER`s are review and advised to the project team and the projects is fully compliant.

Planning: Familiarise yourself with the client and LA planning conditions and ensure they are complied with throughout the project.

Risk Management. Assist the project team with the Risk Register and update regularly as the project progresses.

Purchase Orders: Familiarise and ensure compliance with the g2E procurement process, assisting the commercial team where required.

Reporting: Assist the Project Manager with g2E project weekly and monthly reports. Compile misc reports as instructed.

POW: Ensure the POW is updated with the project team as required ensuing all key personnel are informed of any changes.

Street Works: Ensure the project team are raising Sect 50 in line NRSWA Act.

NJUG: Ensure project team compliance with NJUG guidelines.

Sub-Contractors/Suppliers: Familiarise yourself with and manage g2E sub contractor/supplier processes and procedures, produce scope of works, liaise with g2E Legal and Commercial as required, review T&Cs, and RAMS as required. Assist the QS with technical scope to be added to tenders.

Supervision: Ensure that there is adequate subcontractor supervision on site by project managers, site managers and construction supervisors.

Support to Project Managers, Construction Supervisor and Site Managers: Provide electrical support to the Project Managers, Construction Supervisor and Site Managers in completing their role and ensure cover is provided in times of absence.

Commissioning: Familiarise yourself with the commissioning processes and plan the production of commissioning plans ensuring client requirements are complied with.

QA: Ensure Quality Assurance (QA) programmes and compiled and audits etc are completed. E.g. pre work checks and sign off completed works checking it's to specification and the drawings. Compile/collate test certificates, reports etc as required.

Quantity Surveyor- Assist the QS with tenders' scopes, milestone approvals and provide technical support for any EWN, EOT or CE

Meetings: Attend as required; design, procurement, client, DNO, IDNO meetings (and any other g2E related meetings) as requested.

Audits: Manage, organise, attend, complete and/or contribute to team, site, DNO, IDNO, HSEQ audits as required.

Advise to Design. Provide technical advice to the design team, carry out design reviews and ensure buildability of the project.

Advise to Sales. Provide technical advice, costings, complete site recces, compile reports as required to assist Sales in tendering for projects.

HSEQ: Familiarise yourself with the CPP, F10 (If required) and g2E suite of HSEQ documentation. In conjunction with the Site Manager and Project Managers you are responsible for site safety and security. Assist and provide information to the g2E HSEQ Mgr in the production of and providing technical detail in RAMS, audits etc.

DSR`S/SSOW: Ensure the project is compliant with G2 or clients distribution safety rules and safe systems are work are adhered too.

As Builts: Ensure information is submitted in good time to assist g2E in the production of ‘As builts' to form the Health and Safety File.

Competency. Maintain yours and your team's competency by attending training courses, lectures, CPD etc approved or arranged by g2E.


Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • HND or degree level education in electrical engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5 years working in relevant and similar construction projects consisting of earthing, LV/HV cable laying and installing distribution systems up to 132kV.
  • DNO, IDNO or ICP experience.
  • Worked on renewable or embedded generation projects.
  • Previous AP or SAP authorisations
  • Be able to interpret electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Have knowledge of relevant and up to date, construction industry standards, processes and procedures
  • Have a working knowledge of DNO G81, Sect 50, SAP and/or DNO authorisation's (LV & HV)
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and compliance on construction sites (including CDM, HSE specific guidance e.g. HSGs)
  • Have a good working understanding of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and MS Project
