Job Overview
We are looking for a Consultant to join the Department of Rheumatology at the James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to cover a period of maternity leave. The appointee will be an individual with enthusiasm, strong self-motivation, and the skills necessary to contribute to the development of our patient-centered rheumatology service. The post-holder will form part of a multidisciplinary team approach to care within the specialty. The post-holder will be responsible for the maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients under their team. The appointee will be sharing with medical, nursing, and administrative colleagues, responsibility for the day-to-day management of Rheumatic diseases. The appointee will share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Rheumatology Department.

Main duties of the job
- The appointee will be expected to provide clinical and administrative service in Rheumatology, including outpatient clinics, support of specialist nurses and day treatment, and seeing inpatient referrals.
- The appointee will work closely with other clinical and non-clinical Rheumatology staff to provide a high standard of care to the Rheumatology patients and to give consultant opinion, guidance, and advice on any patient referred to the department.
- In addition to the general medical commitments, the appointee will undertake 3 rheumatology clinics a week and attend ward referrals and provide cover to infusion unit and support the specialist rheumatology nurses.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Provide consultant medical services to patients admitted to the emergency assessment and discharge unit (EADU) and supervise junior doctors involved in the care. Provide Rheumatology services for the trust which includes running outpatient clinics, supporting specialist nurses, supporting day unit and seeing inpatient referrals for these patients. Collaborate with the other Consultants a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for Acute and General Internal Medicine and cover for annual, study and professional leave. Liaise with medical staff in other specialities and participate in the regular clinical meetings and other post-graduate activities of the hospital. Maintain and develop team working practices involving other medical staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals. - Essential criteria
- MBBS or Basic Medical Degree
- MRCP or equivalent
- Hold a certificate or being within 6 months of completion of training or being on or eligible for the UK Specialist Register at the date of interview.
- Full GMC registration
- Desirable criteria
- MD/PhD
Experience & Knowledge

- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Rheumatology
- Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within General Medicine.
