Job Description
Key Tasks and Responsibilities: This role reports to the Chief Underwriting Officer and oversees pricing across various business units, including Broker Distribution, Specialist Insurance, and Botswana operations. The Pricing Lead is responsible for the following: Overseeing the pricing of both existing and new short-term insurance lines, including Commercial, Personal, Marine, Engineering, and Hospitality. Managing and leading a team of approximately 10 pricing professionals. Collaborating with various business stakeholders, such as Broker Distribution and Underwriting, to ensure financial targets are met. Continuously analyzing portfolio performance to guide pricing decisions and recommend actions to achieve business objectives. Developing and implementing pricing best practices, including system design, procedures, and tools. Managing pricing tools, including contracting, budgeting, and aligning them with best practices. Translating organizational plans into pricing strategies and risk management initiatives. Leading complex pricing projects and providing actuarial support to business units. Creating and maintaining reports to monitor profitability and identify market opportunities. Participating in Profitability Reviews and Performance Assessments. Supporting various business functions, including Reserving, Finance, and Claims, with pricing and strategic decisions. Managing the flow and quality of data related to pricing processes. Qualifications, Experience, and Knowledge: Qualifications: University Degree in Actuarial Science or a related field (NQF Level 7). FASSA designation (or international equivalent) preferred. Experience: At least 5 years of short-term insurance pricing experience, including modelling and deployment. Proven experience advising senior management on actuarial matters. Experience in underwriting, portfolio management, and large IT projects. General management experience, with a focus on team leadership and project management. Knowledge: Strong understanding of actuarial principles, pricing best practices, and relevant legislation. Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, and financial analysis. Awareness of economic trends affecting underwriting and pricing. Proficiency in statistical and actuarial pricing methods, with hands-on experience in deploying pricing bases. Technical Skills: Proficiency in actuarial software (e.g., SAS, VBA), pricing tools, and statistical methods. In-depth knowledge of the policy underwriting life cycle, inflation indexation, and rate change processes. Strong problem-solving abilities and root-cause analysis skills.
