Job Description
Job Title: Anaerobic Digestion Operator
Location: Knaresborough, Allerton Waste Recovery Park
Contract: Initial 3-month contract
Shifts: Rotating - Week 1: 6am - 2pm, Week 2: 2pm - 10pm
Salary: Equivalent to £35,000 per annum (£17.95/hour)
Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor the plant via the SCADA system during steady state, start-up, shutdown, and emergencies.
Ensure compliance with environmental permits and report non-compliance or incidents.
Perform routine inspections, adjustments, and operational procedures to maintain optimal plant performance.
Conduct first-line maintenance and assist in breakdown resolutions.
Safely operate machinery, including telehandlers, front-end loaders, forklifts, and grab cranes (training provided for suitable candidates).
Load feedstock into fermenters/digesters and manage compost-like output (CLO) in line with ABPR requirements.
Collaborate with the maintenance team on pump replacements, shaft installations, and component repairs.
Maintain shift logs, contribute to procedure updates, and support team training initiatives.
Qualifications
Experience in anaerobic digestion operations with a solid understanding of operational and maintenance tasks.
Awareness of health, safety, and environmental regulations (IOSH Managing Safely preferred).
Front-end loader or telehandler license is desirable.
Skills
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Detail-oriented with an excellent work ethic.
Ability to work independently and remain composed in dynamic situations.
