JOB PURPOSE
We are seeking a hardworking, experienced, and motivated individual that adopts a hands-on approach to join us at Silverstone. The British Grand Prix Campsite Operations Manager will be responsible for the proactive development of onsite camping and glamping operations at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. By reviewing our current proposition through internal and external competitor analysis, planning and delivery they will highlight commercial opportunities and develop business cases to present these. They will create operational efficiencies within the delivery across all campsites, working with organisers, internal departments and contractors to ensure expectations are exceeded for all customers, including those that are working and staying in the staff and volunteer campsites. We are a small team that delivers big events, as such communication, team work and accountability are crucial to our success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning
- Planning of the camp and glampsites at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix using event expertise to manage projects from initial concept through to completion.
- Responsible for organising and facilitating all aspects including site planning and inspections, infrastructure, signage, staffing, contingency planning and post event evaluation.
- Liaise and negotiate with suppliers and contractors to get a high quality, safe and cost-effective service.
- Booking and Management of all temporary facilities and infrastructure. Ensuring that each campsite and glampsite is set up as required for the event and handed back efficiently.
- Complete ownership and management of budgets, financial reporting and reconciling budgets.
- Managing Assistants and Administrators workload to deliver the event administration including raising of purchase orders and invoices.
- Working with the Event Operations Manager to maximise the layout of the event.
- Working with the traffic team to utilise the land under Silverstone’s control in the best commercial and operational way.
- Understanding the impact of campsites and glampsites on the Zone X operations, and sharing this to influence event operations around security, stewarding, wayfinding and directional signage, etc.
- Creation of safe and effective operational plans, build and breakdown schedules, production schedules and event timelines. Access control including working with the accreditation team to ensure all contractors are set up and effectively uploading accreditation requests within agreed timescales and limits.
Stakeholder Management
- Acting as the main Silverstone point of contact for all official and unofficial campsites operating at the British Grand Prix, with and through the IAG.
- Working with Silverstone’s official campsite operators as the main point of contact for planning and during the event ensuring that event safety and operational plans are in keeping with Silverstone’s high standards.
- Working and building relationships with all stakeholders ensuring camp and glampsites are communicated and delivered effectively and efficiently within the brief.
- Assist with products and services procurement to enhance the event whilst keeping within budgets.
- Working with the Partnerships team to deliver brand partnerships and experiences at the camping and glamping sites.
- Liaising with all suppliers to ensure relevant sustainability data is captured and shared to assist in post event reporting.
Event Operations
- Provide health and safety expertise whilst managing risks to ensure each campsite and glampsite is delivered safely, this includes ensuring contractors only work on site when they have completed the appropriate documentation and supplied the correct insurance and certificates. The British Grand Prix Campsite Operations Manager will also be responsible for ensuring contractors adhere to Health and Safety Guidelines and KPI’s.
- Procure casual and freelance resource needed to deliver the camping and glamping operations.
- Create and deliver the briefing plan to manage casual and freelance resource.
- Overseeing the campsite proposition on other events and supporting the Public Events team and other business areas in delivering events and activities as the business requires.
Development
- Representing Silverstone on the Campsites sub-group of the Inter-Agency Group, ensuring other agency representatives are kept up to date with information regarding the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
- To be creative and look at ways of enhancing the event from both customers and business perspectives to improve revenues and reduce costs.
- Working with the British Grand Prix Entertainment Operations Manager to create efficiencies within the curated entertainment program across all areas of the British Grand Prix.
- Liaise with SCL revenue & finance leads to develop proposals for profitable, products, pricing and budgets for new business opportunities.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
- British Grand Prix Operations and Public Events teams.
- All internal departments. The key business areas critical to the success of our events including finance, marketing, customer services, catering, logistics and venue operations.
- External third-party suppliers (traders, contractors, suppliers, F1 management and customers).
- Inter-agency group members.
- Local landowner and operators.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A relevant business or Events degree.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience working within the events industry ideally working on major public events ideally events operating on greenfield or semi-greenfield sites.
- Great commercial acumen with proven experience of managing events from implementation through to completion.
- Experience of delivering all elements of an event from concept and contracts through to post event evaluation. This also includes managing budgets
