Job Description

Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist

Job Location: The Grange School, Thatcham (RG19)

Salary: Between £25,951.15 - £31,718.08 based on 40 hours per week, 42 weeks of the year.

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time Only

Are you a newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist eager to inspire, empower, and create meaningful change? This is your opportunity to make a lasting impact while growing your career in a nurturing and dynamic environment. You’ll support children with neurodiverse needs, including autism and ADHD, many of whom may have experienced trauma.

Imagine spending your days helping our pupils unlock their potential by turning everyday moments into learning opportunities. You might be designing vibrant visual resources to make communication engaging and accessible, planning fun and interactive language games that spark joy and encourage development, or playing a simple game of “I Spy” to gently build conversational confidence. Every activity, no matter how small, can open new worlds for the pupils you’ll support.

Beyond working directly with pupils, you’ll have the chance to engage in reflective practice sessions with team members, exploring strategies and ideas to support each pupil’s development. Together, you’ll uncover ways to help pupils flourish and grow, celebrating their progress and finding new approaches to overcome challenges. Your contributions will create a positive, supportive environment where every pupil has the opportunity to thrive.

You’ll be part of a dedicated team, assisting experienced Speech and Language Therapists while collaborating with teachers, creative arts therapists, and other professionals. Together, you’ll help children with neurodiverse needs overcome challenges and thrive in their learning and social environments.

We’ll provide you with the tools, guidance, and encouragement to grow your skills and build your confidence. You’ll have protected time for clinical supervisions and the opportunity to develop creative and evidence-based approaches, all while working hands-on with pupils in an educational setting.

This isn’t just a role; it’s the perfect foundation for a rewarding career in therapies. If you’re ready to make a difference, surrounded by a passionate and supportive team, this could be the start of something truly special.

A day in the life of a Speech and Language Therapist will involve:

  • Taking a trauma informed approach to clinical work. You’ll work with a small caseload of pupils who will have varying Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, Learning disabilities and Autism. You’ll be able to do this through 1:1 support, classroom work and group sessions.
  • Working with the wider team to offer the best support to our pupils, including our onsite creative art therapists, teachers, and teaching assistants, and taking part in Multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Administration. Whilst doing all your great work with the pupils, we’ll need you to keep their records up to date and carry out all the administrative tasks you’d expect to come with this role. Don’t worry though, during the school holidays you can work from home so that you have the space to do this without it impacting the time you spend with the pupils.

To be a successful Speech and Language Therapist, you’ll need:

  • A recognised Degree in Speech and Language Therapy, along with HCPC Registration and membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language.
  • Good IT skills – We’ll train you on how to use our systems, but it would help if you had a working understanding of using Microsoft packages like Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
  • A full driving licence. Whilst this role is based in a single location, there will be times that you need to attend meetings offsite which would require the use of a vehicle.

In return for your time, you’ll get:

  • Holidays – You’ll get 28 days annual leave, including public holidays. You’ll also get an extra day off on your birthday!
  • Pension scheme– Our pension scheme is based on you paying in 5%, and us adding 3%.
  • Learning & Development Opportunities – We provide comprehensive learning opportunities for team members to develop themselves.
  • Discounts – You’ll have access to brilliant discounts through the Blue Light Card and our own employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Support – Your wellbeing is always our priority. You’ll have access to mental health and wellbeing support. On top of this, our therapies team offers a monthly confidential check in clinic, and group reflective practice sessions.
  • Cycle2Work -The cycle to work scheme enables you to buy a bicycle at a discounted rate.
  • DBS – As this role required you to have an enhanced DBS carried out, we will cover this cost.
  • After 12 months service - You’ll also be eligible for our Medicash scheme which covers a wide range of medical, health and wellbeing expenses (Including immediate access to a GP!). You’ll get life assurance paid at x2 your annual salary.

Please note that as part of our safer recruitment processes, successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment checks including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check, and online and social media checks, and reference validation.

At Phoenix Learning and Care, we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce, and ensuring we have an inclusive environment for all our team members. We remain committed to ensuring our teams can bring their true selves to work without risk or fear of discrimination.
