Job Description

You will work for an international NGO in the medical department, supporting donors identified as potential stem cell matches by evaluating their medical suitability and managing the donation process. Key responsibilities include guiding donors through testing, medical examinations, and communication with all involved parties, while providing patient care services and support to patients and their families. Requirements: Relevant Bachelors Degree in fields such as nursing, genetics etc. 3 plus years work experience, working in a high-pressure environment. Experience of working with large database/CRM systems. Ability to work in line with POPI and with an understanding of donor and patient confidentiality. Willingness to travel on occasions for training and workshops, both nationally and internationally. Own transport and valid driver's license. Good medical knowledge in the field of oncology and/or expertise in patient care. Knowledge of, or ability to understand, medical terminology, case-note documentation, medical history documentation. Willingness to become acquainted with a very specific discipline/branch of medical science. Advanced English skills Good knowledge of Word, Excel, basic knowledge of PowerPoint Basic knowledge of databases Excellent verbal and written communication skills The following responsibilities is a summary of duties. A more detailed job description is available upon request after shortlisting: Conceptualisation of the Patient Aid Programme You will lead the development and enhancement of a new patient care program, collaborating with international teams, coordinating across departments, managing patient-focused web content, and maintaining a database of relevant support services. Relevant Patient and Family Communications You will provide empathetic support to patients in crisis, facilitate contact with physicians for second opinions, address patient inquiries, coordinate donor searches, and manage patient data consent while ensuring data security. Interface Function You will coordinate with internal departments on patient groups, share impactful stories with marketing and press teams, and facilitate connections between patients, their families, doctors, and support groups. Data Maintenance You will maintain and update patient data while documenting relevant information in compliance with Data Protection legislation. Donor Registry You will support South African Transplant Centres throughout the donor search and stem cell procurement process, collaborating with international search coordinators to identify the most suitable donor for patients in need. This includes managing communication, documentation, and authorisations, ensuring all processes such as import/export permits, courier services, and cryopreservation requests are handled efficiently. You will provide technical assistance with registry software, train new users, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. Additionally, you will contribute to quality assurance, service improvements, and maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field of stem cell donation.
