Freelance Electrician – Luton and Surrounding Areas
Location: Predominantly Luton, Bedfordshire (covering Herts, Beds, Bucks, with occasional jobs further afield)
Our client is seeking experienced Freelance Electricians to join their team and supplement their current workload with additional projects. This role is ideal for qualified, competent electricians who are professional, customer-facing, and ready to handle small domestic and commercial call-outs, installations, EICRs, and PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance).
About the Role:
As a freelance contractor, you will manage various electrical works primarily for domestic and commercial clients across Luton, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and occasionally further afield. You will work independently while maintaining close communication with the administrator and director. Timely submission of paperwork and certificates is crucial, with job sheets and certificates expected to be completed and returned by the next working day.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform small domestic and commercial electrical installations, call-outs, and repairs.
* Conduct EICRs (Electrical Installation Condition Reports) and PPM tasks.
* Fault finding and troubleshooting in domestic and commercial settings.
* Complete all job-related paperwork, including job sheets and certificates, by the next working day.
* Take detailed photos of all works conducted and submit them as part of the documentation.
* Communicate effectively with the team, including the administrator and director, regarding job status and requirements.
* Wear company-branded clothing, where required, to maintain a professional image.
* Use your own transport and tools for all jobs.
* Follow health and safety regulations and maintain high standards of work at all times.
Requirements:
* Fully qualified electrician with electrical testing certification.
* Competent in fault finding, troubleshooting, and both domestic and commercial installations.
* Own transport, tools, and the ability to work independently.
* Customer-facing, polite, and professional with excellent communication skills.
* Experience working with estate agents, local councils, and insurance groups is a plus.
* Comfortable using technology for job sheets, certificates, and work diaries.
* Must have or be willing to obtain public liability insurance.
* NIC EIC or NAPPIT registration is valued but not mandatory.
* Basic IT skills for handling job documentation, certification, and communication.
Pay & Benefits:
* Hourly Rates: £18 to £25 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications).
* Call-Out Rate: £50 inclusive of the first hour. Standard hourly rates apply thereafter.
* Out-of-Hours Rates: To be discussed and agreed on a job-by-job basis.
* Performance-Related Work Distribution: Jobs will be distributed based on performance, including profitability, quality of work, and turnaround time for paperwork.
* Bonus Scheme: A performance-based bonus scheme will reward efficiency, profitability, and timely completion of job sheets and certificates.
