Job Advert: Mechanical Design Engineer / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
Are you a driven Mechanical Design Engineer or an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer looking to advance your career with a leading mechanical design and build contractor? About the Role:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will collaborate closely with the Preconstruction Manager to ensure the delivery of high-quality design packages that meet client requirements, project specifications, and procurement strategies. If you are ready to take on a leadership role, the Principal Mechanical Design Engineer position offers the chance to lead a team of design engineers and CAD technicians, overseeing internal and external design resources to deliver projects from feasibility through to handover.
Key Responsibilities:
* For The Role:
* Draft and review specifications, including Employers Requirements and Design Criteria.
* Ensure compliance with Building Regulations (UK), CIBSE, BCO, HTM, and BREEAM standards.
* Perform multi-discipline building services coordination, including fire safety, compartmentation, and acoustic design.
* Use CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks) and thermal modeling software (MEPworx, Hevacomp, IES) for design tasks.
* Size ductwork, fans, pipework, and pumps for LTHW, CHW, and domestic services.
* Lead design meetings with stakeholders, setting goals and delivering solutions.
* Manage design programs and ensure detailed design compliance with budgets and schedules.
* Provide clear working designs and documentation to the construction team.
* Develop and issue RFIs while ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols.
Qualifications and Skill
* HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
* Strong knowledge of design processes at commercial and construction stages.
* Familiarity with the RIBA Plan of Work.
* Experience in consultancy or M&E contracting (contracting preferred).
* Proven leadership and team management abilities.
Benefits and Remuneration:
* Mechanical Design Engineer: £60,000–£70,000 per annum
