About the Role
Base Location: Perth
Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent| Full Time | Flexible First options available
The Senior Cable Assurance Engineer reports to the Technical Authority (TA) Manager and will work under the technical guidance of the Cables Principal Engineer / Technical Authority (TA).
The role supports the overall network assurance strategy by ensuring equipment is suitably designed, manufactured, and tested prior to energization. It will also focus on enhancing network reliability; ensuring resilience of equipment supply and standardisation of design and construction assurance.
As the Senior Cable Assurance Engineer, you will:
- Review manufacturer technical capability assessments as part of technical tender evaluation and assess specification compliance by manufacturers as part of initial and detailed design review.
- Conductfactory audits in line with industry best practices; review cables and accessory testing schedules and programs in line with requirements laid out in the relevant specifications (e.g., PQ, type, routine, sample testing).
- Carry out factory inspections, independent witnessing of Factory Acceptance Testing (at manufacturer location), independent witnessing of Site Acceptance Testing. Preparation of reports to support the approval / acceptance of cables and accessory manufacturer's plants will also be required.
- Input into risk assessment and technical approval of deviation requests against clauses or documents referred to within relevant specifications.
- Support the Cables Principal Engineer with delegated Technical Authority (TA) tasks, including close out of deviation requests, project advice in relation to technical specifications, specification updates, and failure investigations.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline and Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
- Demonstrable experience in all aspects of testing of transmission voltage HVAC / HVDC cables, and their associated national and international standards.
- A detailed knowledge and understanding of a range of National Grid, British, and international standards relevant to transmission underground / subsea cables and cable accessories.
- The ability and experience to technically assess quality issues, problems and/or faults related to HVAC / HVDC cables.
- Experience in manufacturing of HVAC / HVDC cables would also be advantageous.
