Job BriefTechnival Advisor, Environmental Heath Surveillance Vital Strategies India Services Private Limited, is a private limited company focused on strengthening and revitalizing public health systems through design and supporting scalable solutions to leading causes of death, disease, and injury. Vital Strategies provides technical assistance, consultation, as well as project management, design, and evaluation to a wide range of private and public sector clients, to further its mission to improve and save lives, including through non-communicable disease prevention, environmental health, and urban health, with specific areas of focus in tobacco control, data for health, road safety and environmental health. This position will be based in Maharashtra and will contribute to our Environmental Health program focusing on a global project, including Maharashtra, that aims to provide technical assistance around lead poisoning prevention among children. The selected candidate will report to the team leads for respective projects and will provide in-country epidemiologic and programmatic support, including assessing and analyzing routinely collected exposure and health outcomes data needed to inform health impact assessments. S/he will collaborate with a team of environmental health scientists, epidemiologists, public health practitioners, and statisticians across Vital Strategies’ global and India teams, and work with a wide range of partner organizations including high-level and middle-level civil servants in India. Applicants must have a strong written proficiency in English and Hindi, and oral proficiency in English, Hindi and Marathi.All members of the Vital India team embody the organization’s values and are integral to promoting our brand, supporting our growth and ensuring operational excellence Core Job Responsibilities: Provide technical assistance and programmatic support to lead poisoning prevention project, including launching a biomonitoring surveillance program to evaluate children’s exposures to lead, overseeing data collection, reporting on findings, and developing training for local health professionalsDevelop and sustain partnerships with government and non-government organizations in various sectors including health, environment, and educationSupport project start-up, recruitment, contracting, and procurement activitiesCoordinate and monitor implementation of key project activitiesAct as a Vital Strategies focal point and representative for key partner organizations in Maharashtra Assist with other duties as specified by supervisor Qualification and Experience: Bachelor’s in Science with 10 years of relevant work experience or Master’s degree in public health, environmental science, epidemiology or related field with 8 years of relevant experience Desired Experience - Prior work experience with international non-governmental organizationsPrior work experience with environmental epidemiology, especially related to lead poisoning prevention or heavy metal pollutionExperience liaising with government stakeholdersExperience conducting public health surveillanceStrong foundational understanding of epidemiologic analysis and terminologyExperience managing complex data flows Skills and Abilities - Oral proficiency in English, Hindi and MarathiProfessional written proficiency in English and HindiStrong interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skillsAbility to manage time effectively and meet deadlines with limited supervisionProficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)Proficient in SAS, STATA, SPSS or other statistical software Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Ability to work flexibly with colleagues across time zonesWilling to travel to the state semi-regularly for up to two weeks at a time We encourage all qualified individuals who share Vital Strategies’ vision of a world where everyone is protected by a strong public health system to apply. The salary range for this position is INR 22,40,000 to INR 32,00,000.
