Your Role

The Principal will perform complex level professional internal controls assessment work and consulting services. Work involves leading or conducting financial, operational and compliance projects; providing consulting services to the organization's management and staff; and providing training and coaching to business operation owners. Maintains all organizational and professional ethical standards. Works independently under minimal supervision with considerable latitude and expectation for initiative and independent judgment.

Responsibilities

Your Work

In this role, you will:
  • Execute the goals of the Internal Controls Advisory Services program by coordinating with cross functional operational business partners including Finance, Operations, Health Solutions, Information Technology, Internal Audit, and compliance leadership to establish an effective internal control environment and controls conscientious culture
  • Identify and evaluate the organization's risk areas and provide key input to the development of the Internal Controls work plan
  • Perform control assessments which include identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence, and documenting client processes and procedures
  • Conduct interviews, review documents, compose summary memos, and prepare work papers
  • Proactively contribute to complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization
  • Execute assigned internal controls testing for processes involving finance, operations, and information technology
  • Conduct thorough process reviews and broad risk assessments that include Gap and Root Cause Analysis
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of corporate policies, processes, and procedures against established standards, guidelines and requirements and recommend changes where appropriate
  • Develops and maintains productive client and staff relationships through individual contacts and group meetings
  • Prepare and deliver reports to senior leadership pertaining to the effectiveness of their business unit's internal control structure along with recommendations for improvement
Qualifications

Your Knowledge and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of full-time experience in auditing, business analysis, or program evaluation required
  • CPA, CIA, or CISA certifications preferred
  • Experience in healthcare industry, specifically Medi-Cal and Medicare preferred
  • Considerable knowledge of and skill in applying internal auditing and accounting principles and practices, and management principles and preferred business practices
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and the ability to leverage such knowledge to make effective advisory recommendations
  • Knowledge of the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics developed by the Institute of Internal Auditors
  • Knowledge of management information systems terminology, concepts, and practices
  • Knowledge of industry program policies, procedures, regulations, and laws
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions
  • Considerable skill in planning and project management, and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Communicates the results of consulting projects via written reports and oral presentations to mid-level and senior leadership
  • Team player with strong interpersonal, communication and project management skills
Pay Range: The pay range for this role is $136,400.00 to $204,600.00 for California.

Note: Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.

Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Due to the current public health emergency in California, Blue Shield employees are almost all working remotely. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
