We are a niche service provider to the built environment. The business provides a range of specialist access and maintenance solutions to faades, roofs & glazing for high-end hotels, commercial buildings and across the MOD estate. We have a strong retained client base and want to expand our market share, drive commercial growth and enhance our future growth plans.
The business has high staff retention; we are a people-based business where we accept things dont always go to plan. Personal development and continuous improvement have been key factors to our success so far, ensuring we build skills and people in line with the business growth plans. There is an established and growing culture within the business centred around delivering service excellence, continuous improvement, collaboration, and authenticity - all part of our drive towards high performance. Over the past 18 months, our attention on commercial growth has stemmed from a client service-based strategy; this focus has created strong and sustainable growth. We now need to increase our marketing strategy and scale up our commercial activity, while also improving monitoring and data driven commercial management for the next phase of growth.
We are looking for a Marketing and Commercial Manager - an individual with strong leadership, a good creative brain, effective communicator, and service-focused individual. Someone who can bring in skills for internal and external marketing, ideally with a strong commercial background. The skills are the most important thing for us, rather than being sector specific.
The Job
The role blends marketing, commercial management, strategic growth and commercial development. We require a creative and experienced individual who is happy managing people, creating new ideas, implementing, analysing and driving performance for businesses growth. The role is varied and requires a full hands-on approach at times, to get things done. The aptitude to embrace feedback from clients, peers and colleagues for the greater good of the business and everyone in it is essential.
Growth - Growth and investment in growth is a key focus, to increase our market share. Implementing the correct plans consistently is crucial. This includes working with the Founder on new branding, updating our website, improving our assets, with a focus on team development - which all forms part of the next 3-year phase. Finding the right person for this role is key for these plans to achieve success.
Leadership - As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will be expected to bring your ideas to the table and contribute to our strategies to meet our business objectives. As a line manager, you will take overall responsibility for driving the commercial output of a small team, made up of commercial and estimating roles, as well as managing the small marketing team.
Our plan is for the commercial and marketing offering to grow under your tenure. You will bring with you the scope to shape how this is done to drive sustained success and growth.
You can expect to (but not limited to):
- Assume responsibility for your internal team and ensure everyone is working effectively, monitoring their output against agreed objectives. You will lead, motivate and develop your direct reports through our 121 and appraisal process.
- Support future employment selection and recruitment process for commercial and marketing roles.
- Input into the succession and talent management of the team.
Data Driven
- Our initial focus is to ensure all current commercial activities are monitored and managed effectively, improving output and driving and refining KPIs. Customer life cycle planning and marketing need a focused plan to expand and engage with current clients and future markets.
- There are some simple and obvious wins, along with more strategic and planned projects needed. We need to ensure our commercial output is more tightly aligned with our targets, so that more predictable growth can be planned for. This will include utilising our in-house data system (WorkBuddy), as well as other CRMs as required.
Marketing
- Work closely with our Head of Digital to create fresh commercial and marketing strategy for the next three years.
- Drive new online and offline ideas through effective campaign creation that enable the business to own its niche and increase market sector share capability.
- You will oversee the review, analysis and reporting of all marketing and commercial activity in preparation for senior managemnt meetings and, with the input of internal and external parties, establish a marketing strategy to aid the development of market share growth within core sectors.
- Work with external agencies on specific projects as required, including with PR agencies in support of business award applications.
- Work with the Founder to ensure his vision is implemented in specified campaigns based on business strategies.
- CRMs (HubSpot) as required.
Commercial
- Create and implement strategic commercial plan with the Founder.
- Regularly review output and sector-specific growth with the commercial team, along with enquiry types.
- Provide leadership and mentoring where required, along with best practice or new methods.
- Manage and monitor commercial performance of a small estimating team.
- Ensure the teams communicate, use assets and language that supports the marketing tone and objectives.
- Manage pipeline aspects of the business and report accordingly.
- Identify risks and weakness and implement new strategies of commercial value.
- Prepare all commercial reporting activity for senior management meetings.
- Lead the preparation and presentation of commercial presentations.
- Engage with clients, assess feedback and drive initiatives into the business.
- Utilise our internal data management system (WorkBuddy) to its full potential to drive regular reporting and data analysis.
Your Experience & Personal Attributes
- Degree: First Degree, Masters, or MBA (or equivalent) in a related field.
- Evidence of recent Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and any professional accreditations you hold.
- 5 years+ experience of B2B marketing at a senior level.
- Extensive experience in a marketing, both online and offline.
- Experience managing and leading specialist teams.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
- Creative, a strong eye of good design and quality.
- Excellent understanding of communications, PR, branding and marketing principles.
- Proven track record with successful progress into new markets with new products and services.
- Excellent organisational, time management, presentation and communication skills
- Strong research and interpretation skills.
- The ability to liaise with external clients as and when required, to generate new content.
- Confident, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A sound understanding of Adobe CC (image and video applications).
- A sound understanding of Microsoft Office.
- Authentic, consistent team player.
- Positive, open to change with a tad of resilience.
- Ambitious, wants to evolve and grow.
