The senior pathologist has primary responsibility for reporting and interpreting pathology data from all types of toxicity studies in Labcorp. The individual has a responsibility to conduct all work in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and specifically those regulations (GLP) specified in the study plans, protocols, or work agreements governing the work in which they are involved.

The senior pathologist has primary responsibility for reporting and interpreting pathology data from all types of toxicity studies in Labcorp. The individual has a responsibility to conduct all work in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and specifically those regulations (GLP) specified in the study plans, protocols, or work agreements governing the work in which they are involved.
Duties include the following:
- Protocols: To advise on all aspects of anatomic and clinical pathology requirements in toxicity studies, as required.
- Necropsy: To supervise necropsies, as required, to ensure proper dissection description, sampling and preservation of tissues in accordance with the protocol, and advise on the description and recording of gross abnormalities.
- Histopathology: To perform the microscopic evaluation and interpretation of tissue sections from toxicology studies assigned to the jobholder, and to correlate these findings with necropsy, organ weight and clinical pathology findings.
- Clinical Pathology: To evaluate and interpret clinical pathology data from toxicology studies conducted for specified clients. In addition where specifically requested for other toxicology studies, to collaborate with anatomic pathologists in correlating clinical pathology and histopathologic findings, and to provide support to study directors in the reporting, evaluation and interpretation of clinical pathology data.
- Reports: To compile pathology narrative reports of microscopic and gross pathology findings for all toxicology studies assigned to the jobholder, under the general guidance of another senior pathologist, while meeting report deadlines. To compile pathology narrative reports of clinical pathology data for toxicology studies conducted for specified clients, while meeting report deadlines. To communicate the significance of pathologic findings (anatomic and clinical pathology) to study directors, clients and other individuals.
- Interaction: Maintain working relationships with internal and external clients in order to ensure client satisfaction with the Pathology department deliverables. Liaise with pathologists, clinical pathology technicians, study directors, report production personnel.
- Advisory: To assist and advise study directors, and operational personnel in necropsy and histology in the scientific and operational aspects of the data generation and review. To supervise, peer review and advise pathologists in training in the pathology department.
- Organizational: To provide or advise on the general areas of operational management required to maintain and improve the efficiency and image of the pathology group such as computerization, and publications.
- Training: to attend courses and meetings and undertake any required formal training to improve their scientific capabilities. Maintain a broad and up to date level of scientific awareness in all aspects of toxicology.
- Development: Initiate or participate in special projects or develop an area of expertise on an as needed basis.
Experience Required:
- At least 5 years experience in laboratory animal pathology.
- Demonstrated expertise in evaluating pathology data (anatomic and clinical) from acute, subchronic, and chronic rodent toxicology studies as well as studies with dogs, primates and other laboratory species.
- Ability to work with other scientists and staff to address scientific issues relating to pathology.
- Ability to provide scientific guidance and feedback to technicians
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills.
Education Required:
- Veterinary degree or equivalent.
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification
