PRIMARY FUNCTION



The Level-III NDT Inspector will create, implement, and maintain all NDT procedures and ensure they adhere to customers' requirements and specifications. They will serve as the responsible Level-III party and a Level-III technician. They will also oversee all NDT personnel, their training and records, and the NDT operations they perform. Primary NDT methods will focus on magnetic particles (MPI or MT), fluorescent penetrants (FPI or PT), and ultrasonics (UT). They will coordinate with their manager, department leads, and other team members to ensure that all jobs are tested to the specifications of each job and meet the outlined requirements.



JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Inspect and/or oversee the inspection of completed welds using specified NDT techniques

  • Verify NDT requirements and specifications on projects

  • Interpret codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the NDT method(s)

  • Ensure the correct equipment and materials are being used for any given NDT method

  • Train and maintain all NDT operations, NDT personnel, and certification records of NDT inspectors

  • Evaluate and document process changes and work alongside Program Manager and Quality Assurance to obtain customer approval when required

  • Suggest alternative NDT testing techniques

  • Demonstrate correct NDT procedures

  • Ensure proper sequencing is followed through verification of procedures and work instructions

  • Preparing and verifying the adequacy of procedures and work instructions

  • Perform Annual NDT Internal Audits along with Quality System audits when required by the written practice

  • Obtain and Maintain Nadcap NDT certification levels per the following applicable Nadcap Audit Checklists (AC 7114, AC7114/S, AC7114/1, AC7114/1S, AC7114/2, AC7114/2S, AC7114/3, AC7114/3S, AC7114/7 and AC7114/7S)

  • When applicable and required by the written practice, audit external vendors to ensure the written practice is meeting requirements

  • Lead in preparation and hosting of NDT Nadcap audits

  • Responsible for cataloging the calibration, certification, and maintenance of all NDT equipment

  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to all safety procedures and regulations

  • Supervise, train, and examine all NDT work operations performed by NDT personnel

  • Document NDT reports and test results for jobs

  • Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS




  • Minimum of 9 years of inspection experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of aerospace industry experience preferred

  • Nadcap experience preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Weld engineering degree preferred but not required

  • Ability to work roughly 90% on-site and 10% off-site (travel may be required)

  • Ability to meet the requirements of NAS410 for both the responsible Level-III and a technical Level-III in at least one of the relevant methods

  • Ability to write NDT procedures and written practices

  • Thorough knowledge of the materials, components, product technologies, NDT methods, and NDT techniques used by the employer

  • Ability to maintain, operate, and supervise all NDT operations and technicians

  • Ability to achieve Nadcap accreditation for all NDT processes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to support daily responsibilities

  • Must be comfortable working in a constantly changing environment; adaptability & flexibility are critical in this role

  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with tight deadlines

  • Great understanding of NDT and welding processes

  • Ability to pass a drug test in compliance with the law

  • Ability to pass a background check in compliance with the law
