Job Title: Locum Band 7/8a Pharmacist – Wards & Dispensary
Location: Essex
Salary: £27-£36 per hour (depending on experience)
Contract Duration: 6 months
Start Date: ASAP
Working Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (1-hour lunch)
Work Schedule: Full-time (5 days a week) or Part-time (3 or 4 days a week considered)
Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Locum Band 7/8a Pharmacist to join our dynamic pharmacy team in Essex. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled pharmacist to work across wards and in the dispensary, providing essential support in both clinical and operational areas. The role is available on a 6-month contract basis with the possibility of extension. We are flexible with working hours, offering both full-time (5 days a week) and part-time (3 or 4 days a week) options.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clinical pharmacy services across hospital wards, reviewing patient medications, performing clinical checks, and advising on appropriate drug therapy.
Work in the dispensary, managing prescriptions, dispensing medications, and ensuring the safe and accurate distribution of medicines.
Conduct medication reconciliations for patients on admission and support the discharge process with accurate medication advice.
Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and provide expert advice on drug management to medical and nursing staff.
Ensure the correct storage and handling of medicines, in line with hospital policies and guidelines.
Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical care, working closely with the wider healthcare team.
Assist in any clinical audits, data collection, and quality assurance processes as required.
Essential Requirements:
GPHC registration as a Pharmacist.
Experience working as a Band 7 or Band 8a pharmacist, ideally in a hospital setting.
Strong clinical knowledge with the ability to provide advice on medication management in both ward and dispensary settings.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to work independently and manage your workload efficiently.
Available for an immediate start or within a short notice period.
Desirable:
Previous experience working in both clinical and dispensary roles.
Experience in medication reconciliation, discharge planning, and patient education.
A flexible, positive attitude and the ability to adapt quickly to changing environments.
