Your new role as a full-time Switchgear Design Engineer will involve working closely with electrical engineers to understand design requirements and developing mechanical components and systems for switchgear products, such as circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and enclosures. You will be responsible for creating engineering documentation, including bills of materials and design specifications, and utilising EPLAN software to create 3D models and detailed drawings of mechanical components and assemblies.
What you’ll need to succeed is a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, along with proven experience in mechanical design, preferably in the field of switchgear or electrical equipment. Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, is essential. You should have knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and design for manufacturability principles. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations applicable to switchgear design is also important. A detail-oriented approach and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise tasks effectively to meet deadlines will be crucial.
