Mechanical Asset Engineer – Staff – Salary + Bonus + Benefits – Chemicals – Tyne & Wear
Our leading chemicals client is seeking a Mechanical Asset Engineer on a staff basis. Ideally you will possess a comprehensive range of processing plant knowledge ideally with some management experience. Ideally qualified with a mechanical engineering degree to provide effective support and control over maintenance activities, systems, equipment and processes.
The role will require a some multi discipline background with experience gained working on either a COMAH or PSSR site, assets and utilities all within corresponding appropriate environmental, health & safety legislative requirements.
Duties:
1. Ensure that all assigned duties and tasks are carried out in compliance with statutory legal requirements and the company quality, health & safety and environmental policies
2. Promote a positive health and safety culture by ensuring good housekeeping standards are used, correct PPE is being worn and that any near miss, incident or accidents are made safe and reported
3. Adherence to policies and procedures ensuring that all necessary documentation for routine checks and calibrations are performed whilst maintaining the required standards
4. Assist or manage when required the Maintenance team to ensure the safe, standardised and efficient maintenance of all plant and equipment as per planned routines and statutory requirements, including the completion of all documentation to satisfy these requirements
5. Oversee Engineering Supervisors allocation of daily work orders and control of the technicians to ensure correct prioritisation close out of site activities
6. Responsible for managing the correct installation, inspection, servicing and repair of all mechanical and electrical equipment and instrumentation on site, ensuring all work undertaken to the highest standards and within required timescales
7. Working with Engineering Manager to plan shutdown work and intrusive safety critical jobs with associated test bodies and departments ensuring that all equipment is up to date and defects are suitably managed
8. Ensure that all project plans, improvements, repairs and shutdown works are performed to the appropriate standard, ensuring coordination of resources for the flawless execution of works to agreed timescales including appropriate hand over after completion
9. Contribute as required to raise capital asset requests including design input, the provision of technical and process data, specification requirements, procurement, contractor quotations, formal contract agreements, delivery, commissioning and assessing resource requirements
10. Work closely with Engineering teams to actively encourage the identification of appropriate upgrades, modifications or enhanced maintenance routines to maximise and maintain plant availability and efficiency
11. Housekeeping standards are maintained around the plant in accordance with best practises, with particular focus to compliance with DSEAR
12. To work closely with Engineering Supervisor to establish a balanced work schedule as per agreed priorities, this will include routine work, safety critical tasks, any breakdowns or project work
13. To communicate the KPI’s of the department through provision of regular performance monitoring data as well as a monthly summaries to the Engineering manager
14. Aiding and guiding Engineering Supervisor to develop suitable task instructions and technical documents to cover all regular routines, and that these are kept up to date to include the latest available data, guidance and best practises
15. Provide suitable time and resource to appropriately manage hazard, risk and COSHH assessments as required, reviewing findings and inclusion of all control aspects into relevant documentation and training plans
16. Control the provision of suitable documentation, competent resource and approval for all engineering Permit to Work requests as per procedures, including monitoring to ensure that all works are performed as per expected site safety standards
17. Encourage and challenge engineering team to optimise plant / equipment to maximise group profitability whilst ensuring they follow correct and approved task instructions
Qualification & Experience:
• Ideally qualified to a degree level in Mechanical or similar engineering.
• Industry experience in either chemicals, process manufacturing, COMAH or PSSR regulated environment
